1859-D. NGC graded MS-64. A nice untoned example that offers fantastic color and surfaces with near perfect quality throughout. The fields are outstanding as are the devices, with full mint frost intact. The strike is sharp too, which is unusual for this date and mint. As the clouds of war descended on this country, this important Gold dollar was struck, it was obviously set aside soon after it was coined, and carefully preserved since that time. Today it is one of the finer examples around, with just one example reported finer by NGC. A classic condition rarity and certain to be a major centerpiece of an advanced collection. Only 4,952 struck. Pop 3; 1 finer in 65. (PCGS # 7553) Estimated Value $24,000 - 25,000

1886. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. Fully white and a gem cameo proof that shows no signs of toning or spotting. The strike is precise as expected, and the high level of preservation speaks for itself at PF66. The Cameo contrast adds to the eye appeal with the boldly mirrored fields which seem to fall away from the frosted surfaces. Scarce and in demand when found this well preserved, this is clearly one of the finer examples around. Only 1,016 struck. Pop 11; 4 finer at NGC for PFCA, 1 in 66 Star, 3 in 67. 1888. PCGS graded Proof 65+ Deep Cameo. CAC. PQ. A fully untoned superb gem proof with booming eye appeal and fantastic contrast between the mirror fields and mirrored fields. The surfaces are amazing, virtually pristine with no detracting handing marks or nicks. Well frosted on the devices. Only a small percentage of the Proofs struck in any given year offer the majestic Deep Cameo contrast, and when found on these handsome gold coins, the effect is so dramatic and impressive. A coin that is not to be missed! Only 1,079 struck. Pop 2; 4 finer for Deep Cameo Proof, 3 in 66, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 97638) Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000

1888. PCGS graded Proof 64+ Cameo. CAC. PQ. A lovely untoned Gem Cameo Proof that offers high quality right on the cusp of the gem grade, original color and surfaces, enough to earn the coveted and seldom seen CAC approval, and blazing fresh reflectivity. The cameo contrast adds to the appeal, and the surfaces are quite smooth and attractive. Not many exist this nice despite a higher than typical mintage for a proof gold coin of this era. A desirable example! Only 1,079 struck. Pop 3; 28 finer for Proof Cameo at PCGS. (PCGS # 87638) Estimated Value $5,500 - UP
