Lot 730
1799. B-16, BB-158, Rarity 2. NGC graded MS-62. Nice light blue and gold toning on both sides which accents the devices and adds to the depth of the design. Great eye appeal for a Draped Bust dollar, which are seldom found this nicely toned and attractive. The strike is sharp particularly on Liberty's curls and the eagle's wings. Super clean surfaces too, as a strong loup finds little to distract the eye. Precious few of these early silver dollars survived in mint state, and most of those known today show considerable circulation as these were simply too valuable to save at their time of issue. Pop 1; 1 finer in 64. Estimated Value $19,000 - UP

Lot 731
1799/8. 13 stars on reverse. B-1, BB-142, Rarity 4. NGC graded MS-63. A frosty white example with periphery russet and gold toning on the reverse. The obverse is mostly white with ample luster present. The strike was sharp enough to bring up most of the finer devices, including the tiny love lock curl on Liberty's neck. This is a later die state of this popular variety, with the reverse die showing a lump area of sinking on the I of AMERICA, and a long arcing crack through the clouds. Certainly this is one of the finer examples known of the popular 1799/8 overdate and is desitined for an advanced collection. Pop 1; only 1 finer in 64 for the variety at NGC. Estimated Value $30,000 - UP

Lot 733
1843. PCGS graded MS-64. Attractive gold and lilac toning over the entire surface, nicely balanced and pleasing. Nice mirror fields on both sides with eye catching reflectivity. An early Liberty Seated silver dollar, and a date which is seldom found this close to the gem grade. Examination will find a few minor bagmarks on the devices and fields, but these are in keeping with the grade assigned. Sharply struck too, with bold stars on the obverse and crisp folds on Liberty's lovely gown. A lovely coin. Pop 4; 2 finer in 64+. (PCGS # 6929) Estimated Value $10,000 - UP

Lot 734
1844. PCGS graded MS-63. Boldly struck and wonderfully well preserved. All business strikes of this date were struck with a doubled obverse die, with four stripes on the shield and a doubled boarder on the shield. A hint of light tone on this low mintage date, and a coin which is seldom found this attractive and in such a lofty grade. Nice prooflike surfaces on both sides. Only 20,000 struck. Pop 9; 4 finer, 3 in 64, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 6930) Estimated Value $7,000 - UP

Lot 736
1855. PCGS graded Proof 64. Lovely even old time toning with purple and light golden colors on both sides. A tiny mark on the obverse, otherwise a gem proof. Only 60 examples minted and from this meager start about 30 to 40 exist today. This is one of the finer pieces as it is both technically sound and quite handsome. Notice the depth of frost on Liberty, for this coin must have been close to earning the Cameo designation as its contrast is more than usually seen on a typical proof. 1855 is both a low mintage date as well as one with a modest number of proofs struck. The reason for this is the original silver dollar weight was left unchanged in 1853 when the silver content was reduced for coins of less than $1 face value. The value of silver had risen in 1853 to be worth approximately $1.07 per dollar in coins due to the fluctuations in the metals market caused by the California Gold Rush, which began in earnest in 1849. While small denomination silver coins flooded back into the channels of commerce to replace the millions apparently metled for the profit, the silver dollars continued in production at the same prior high value. Hence few were struck in order to keep them from being melted in quantity. The few proofs struck for collectors were generally saved for their amazing beauty and surface quality. Here is a particularly nice example with the famous leaning 55 in the date as designed by Engraver Jamed B. Longacre. Pop 9; 8 finer at PCGS, 3 in regular Proof, 5 in Proof Cameo. (PCGS # 6998) Estimated Value $14,000 - 15,000

1859. NGC graded Proof 65. Lovely blue and russet toning with deeper hues accenting the devices. Boldly struck on all devices, as expected for a proof, with outstanding surfaces that show careful preservation since the day it was coined. Only 800 struck. Pop 17; 30 finer at NGC, 22 in regular Proof, 6 in Proof Cameo, 2 in Ultra Cameo. Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500
