Lot 711
1868. NGC graded MS-61. This is a true condition rarity. For many years specialists doubted that any mint state pieces even existed for this scarce date. Then over time a few new coins trickeled out from various sources and here is one of the very few that has been certified as Mint State. A nice frosty example that shows only scattered light marks and retains much of the original appeal imparted by the dies in 1868. Only 10,630 struck. Pop 2; none finer at NGC. (PCGS # 8653) Estimated Value $12,000 - UP

Lot 712
1874-S. PCGS graded AU-58. Lightly toned and choice with exceptionally smooth surfaces. This is the main coin posted on CoinFacts to represent this scarce issue. Today that service reports that about 137 pieces exist, and this one is clearly in the top five that they have seen at PCGS with just one appreciably finer. A truly challenging issue to find in any grade, especially so at this grade level. Only 10,000 struck. Pop 4; 1 finer in 61. (PCGS # 8671) Estimated Value $13,000 - 14,000

Lot 713
1879-O. NGC graded AU-58. Scarce date with a tiny mintage of just 1,500 pieces of which today about 70 pieces exist. This one is up there with the finer examples and despite rather generous bagmarks, retains the usual frosty bright surfaces one expects on gold coins from this era. A really tough New Orleans issue which is seldom offered in any grade. Untoned. Pop 6; 3 finer, 1 in 58+, 1 in 60+, 1 in 61. (PCGS # 8685) Estimated Value $30,000 - 35,000
