Lot 697
1843-O. Large letters. NGC graded AU-53. CAC. PQ. Well struck and nice for the grade with highly appealing smooth surfaces, only gentle circulation and rich orange gold color from decades of careful storage. The eye appeal on this coin is simply outstanding. A true collectors coin with fantastic surfaces. The Large Letters style seems to be more plentiful than the Small Letters, but both are quite rare in any Mint State grade. Only 82,000 struck. Pop 7; 60 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 8216) Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,200

1845-D. PCGS graded MS-60. Well struck with rich golden shades on both sides. The surfaces are fairly clean despite the modest grade, with a few bagmarks found when closely examined. The eye appeal is strong overall and a delightful example of this Dahlonega issue. Only 90,629 struck. Pop 3; 20 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8224) Estimated Value $5,000 - UP

Lot 699
1847-C. NGC graded MS-62. This is one of the more available issues from the Charlotte Mint, but is far finer than usually seen. About 500 pieces exist from this Mint from 1847, but only a handful are fully Mint State like the present coin. Scattered light handling marks are present on the lustrous fields and frosted devices. An impressive example of this popular issue. Lightly toned and boldly struck. Only 84,151 struck. Pop 2; 1 finer in 63. (PCGS # 8233) Estimated Value $9,000 - UP

Lot 700
1855-O. NGC graded MS-61. Well struck and nicely toned with frosty luster in the fields, and attractive orange-gold color throughout. The strike is fairly sharp and the surfaces are outstanding. Only 11,100 struck, and from that about 90 are known today. This on is certainly at the top and a glorious example of this challenging early New Orleans issue. A rare half eagle in any grade, and this one is stunning in quality. Pop 1; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 8264) Estimated Value $20,000 - UP

Lot 701
1856-O. PCGS graded AU-53. Some luster still evident in the protected areas. The strike is sharp on all but the lower left side of the obverse, with the stars lacking their radial lines and the dentils soft in the area, but sharp elsewhere as if the obverse die was slightly misaligned with the reverse (commonly seen on this issue). Nice surfaces and classic orange-gold color throughout. Only 10,000 struck, of which CoinFacts notes that approximately 85 exist today, making this a very rare coin in any grade. Here is one that is quite nice and attractive. Pop 9; 18 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8269) Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000

Lot 702
1859-C. PCGS graded MS-61. Lovely gold toning and a true condition rarity in any Mint State grade, with no more than 10 that likely can claim this grade. The obverse is rather sharply struck for this particular date and mint, but the reverse is always fuzzy in detail. Experts believe that something went wrong with the reverse die (shipped in late 1858 to the Charlotte Mint). The reverse die may have been improperly annealed or something similar which made the entire die poorly defined and definition is just mushy. This is how this date and mint is always found. Clean surfaces and one of the nicest examples of this date known. Softly struck in the center of reverse, always seen. Only 31,847 struck. Pop 4; 4 finer, 1 in 62+, 2 in 63, 1 in 66. (PCGS # 8281) Estimated Value $8,000 - UP
