1918-D, 8 over 7. PCGS graded AU-50. Popular Red Book variety. Lightly toned with flashy luster throughout and a dusting of pale gold on the obverse, a few deeper russet streaks on the reverse. The overdate feature is sharp and clear, and the surfaces are pleasing for this sought-after and desirable coin. Not all that many survive of the 8/7 variety, and this is one of the nicer ones that is destined for an advanced collection (PCGS # 3939) Estimated Value $7,000 - 7,500

Lot 182
1920-D. NGC graded MS-66. Lightly toned and well struck with bright nickel-silver surfaces, and quite attractive. Among the finest known for this challenging date, and certainly one of the finest known today. An interesting thin die crack extends off the Chief's nose to the rim at the right. Full horn on the bison, and the split tail is visible too. A condition rarity when found so incredibly outstanding, and a delight to examine. The surfaces are simply splendid, with nary a mark or tick anywhere on these surfaces. Its extraordinary to find a 1920-D Buffalo nickel so well preserved. Pop 2; 1 finer in 67 Star. Estimated Value $35,000 - UP

Lot 183
1923-S. NGC graded MS-66. Star. Well struck. Lovely rainbow toning on both sides of concentric circles of color. Fantastic gem quality too, with mark free surfaces and extraordinary eye appeal. This 1923-S is a key date issue and this is one of the finest to survive with precious few competitors. Although over 6 million were struck, virtually all of these entered circulation and only a small group apparently were saved in high grades. This one is destined for an advanced certified collection and will take its place with high honors for this issue in a top Buffalo nickel collection. Pop 1; 1 finer in 66+. Estimated Value $14,000 - UP

Lot 184
1926-S. NGC graded MS-65. PQ. Lovely light gold toning on both sides which expresses the natural antique nature of a well stored, well cared for coin. This is of course a key date issue which is virtually unheard of at the gem grade level. Add to this mix the incredible strike on both sides, with a fully split tail on the bison and full horn, unlike so many of the branch mint coins of this era which are poorly struck up, even when fully mint state.

The mintage for the 1926-S came in at 970,000, and while that may sound adequate, recall that no one paid much attention to these at the time, thus few were saved at all. Hence, any coin in Mint State is a real treat to find, as so few exist. Of course demand for Gems from well healed collectors has always been extremely high so when one turns up with a bold strike, glittering gem surfaces and abundant eye appeal, expect considerable competition! Well struck and choice. A key date coin. Pop 10; 6 finer, 2 in 65+, 3 in 66, 1 in 66 Star. Estimated Value $50,000 - 60,000

Lot 185
1927-D. NGC graded MS-66+. Lovely light rainbow toning on both sides with golden russet dominant. This date is usually poorly sturck, but here is one that is much sharper and well struck for this date. For this date and mint, this is absolutely the finest around tied with just one other graded the same at PCGS! An incredibly important coin for the specialist who demands the finest available, and what a gem coin this is! Pop 1; tied with a PCGS MS-66+ example for the finest graded at both services. Estimated Value $25,000 - UP
