Flowline luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has mint state eye appeal in spite of a bit of rub on the highpoints. The only marks are two tiny ticks in the field above the head and a spot of minor roughness left of OF. Late die state. Our grade is AU50+. NGC population 5; 15 finer: 6 in 62, 9 in 63. 1818 N-10 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Red, CAC Approved. Lustrous bright mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints of the devices, about 90% of both sides showing mint color. There are some small spots of dark steel toning on both sides, the most notable are two spots at the right end of the line below CENT. M-LDS, the usual Randall Hoard die state for mint state examples of the variety, but this one is far above average for those survivors. Our grade is MS63+. A great date or type coin. A tiny nick near the hair under star 8 may help identify this cent. MDS with the usual die crack from the tip of the bust to the dentils below star 1. 1842 N-6 R1 Large Date PCGS graded MS66 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous light steel and medium brown with traces of faded mint red remaining in a few of the protected areas. A very attractive cent with only a few trivial marks. The notable ones are a thin diagonal nick near the hair under star 7, a spot of dark toning in the dentils right of the date, and a spot of darker toning on the lower loop of the wreath ribbon. LDS, die state d (Reiver's old N-10 variety). The die lumps in the field at the lips and lowest curl are gone and a tiny lump has formed near the leaf right of the bottom of the E in ONE. Our grade is MS63. Tied for CC#2 honors for the die variety and tied with one other example for finest known in the late (N-10) die state. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable mark is a fine scratch down the nose (visible only with a strong magnifier). The repunching on the 1 is sharp. Includes 1846 N-4 R1 Repunched Date E-MDS (b) PCGS XF40 (our grade VF35), 1854 N-10 R2 MDS (d) PCGS XF45 (our grade VF25), 1854 N-18 R3 MDS (b) PCGS XF40 (our grade VF35), and 1856 N-2 R1 Italic 5 EDS (b early) PCGS XF40 (our grade VF25+). The 1856 is attributed as N-21 on the PCGS label, which is incorrect. All are glossy brown and chocolate. Lot of 4 slabbed cents. Estimated Value $250 - UP
