Lot 635
1793 S-9 R2 Wreath Cent with Vine & Bars Edge PCGS AU50, CAC Approved. Very attractive frosty tan and light brown blending to darker steel brown on the highpoints of the devices. The surfaces are smooth and virtually flawless. The best identifying marks, and they are microscopic, are a tiny tick under the left foot of the B in LIBERTY and a pinprick between the N & I in UNITED. MDS, Breen state VII, with die cracks on the bottom of the reverse. Struck slightly off center to K-10 leaving some of the border beads tight to the edge of the planchet. A beautiful 1793 Wreath Cent, about as perfect as you could expect for a lightly worn early copper. Our grade is VF35+, close to EF40, and Choice. Perfect for a date or type set of problem-free coins. Pop 7; 24 finer at PCGS. Value $35,000 - UP

Lot 636
1793 S-9 R2 Wreath Cent with Vine & Bars Edge PCGS VG Detail, Environmental Damage. Steel brown and chocolate mixed with darker olive brown on the reverse. The obverse looks smooth and quite nice to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals uniform microscopic granularity. The granularity on the reverse is slightly more pronounced and there is some shallow dark scale in protected areas. No notable marks or other defects, and the eye appeal is rather nice, especially on the obverse. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks on the reverse. The date is strong and the legends are clear. Our grade is VG10 sharpness net VG7. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Value $1,500 - UP

Lot 637
1794 S-22 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Very attractive glossy tan and golden brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Puffs of darker steel brown toning are scattered over the reverse. Frosty luster shows in the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent has mint state eye appeal in spite of a touch of rub on the highpoints of the portrait. The surfaces are perfectly smooth and the only notable marks are a pair of nicks high on the cheek and a small planchet chip on the rim at the first A in AMERICA (as struck). M-LDS, Breen state VII. A fine die crack reaches from the rim through the 4 to the truncation but goes no farther and the "Mounds" on the reverse are well advanced. Called EF45 net EF40 Average Plus and tied for CC#9 in the Noyes census, his photo #34041. Our grade is EF45. This variety, while relatively common in lower grades, is unknown in true Mint State by EAC standards. This is certainly one of the better ones, and it comes with an important provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 2; tied for the finest examples graded at both services for the variety. Value $17,500 - UP

1794 S-25 R3 VG8. Sharpness F15 or better but burnished for an unknown reason because the surfaces appear to have been smooth anyway. Retoned glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. MDS with die clashmarks on both sides but no die crack on the reverse. Softly struck along the bottom edge of the reverse but everything else is nicely impressed. The date is strong. Value $400 - UP

1794 S-32 R2 PCGS graded XF45, CAC Approved. Frosty chocolate and darker steel brown with traces of lighter brown and tan in protected areas. No roughness or notable contact marks, but there is some dirt nestled into protected areas on the reverse, especially at ES in STATES and around the N in UNITED. The best identifying mark is a tiny spot of planchet impurity off the leaf tip left of the first A in AMERICA (as struck). E-MDS, Breen state II, with a fine die crack through the first S in STATES and strong die clashmarks on the reverse, but before the cud break at LI in LIBERTY. Softly struck along the dentils before the portrait, as always on this die combination (due to non-parallel die faces). Our grade is VF30. Value $5,000 - UP

1794 S-59 R3 PCGS XF Detail, Environmental Damage. Rather glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with darker chocolate brown toning in protected areas on the obverse. Tiny pits are scattered over the obverse while the reverse is smooth except for a spot of corrosion on the rim over TA in STATES. A small rim dent left of the date is the only notable contact mark. MDS, Breen state III, with a die crack arcing through the fraction. The date and legends are complete and clear. Our grade is VF25 sharpness net VG10. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 1794 S-63 R2 PCGS VF Detail, Altered Surface. Mostly glossy chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a few small rim nicks on the reverse and a minor rim bruise over the M in AMERICA. I suppose the "Altered Surfaces" comes from a poorly executed brushing that left microscopic brush lines on the obverse. EDS, Breen state I, before the dies clashed. Our grade is F12+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Value $500 - UP

1796 S-88 R4 Liberty Cap G6. Rather glossy medium steel brown and chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and this cent has excellent eye appeal for the grade. Just a few trivial contact marks including a thin diagonal nick at the top of the numerator. LDS, Breen state II, with a die crack up the right side of the 7 to the truncation above. The date is bold and the legends are complete except for ONE, which is missing due to the usual weaker strike in that area. Value $1,250 - UP
