Lot 555
1808 S-279 R1 G4. Partly glossy dark olive brown and steel with lighter chocolate brown toning on the devices. The surfaces are a bit dull thanks to microscopic roughness and there are a few contact marks but no verdigris. A diagonal planchet fissure or old scratch on the truncation is the only significant mark. Struck 10% off center to K-6.5 leaving most of the date off the planchet but faint traces of the upper part of the date are visible. Value $200 - UP

Lot 557
1813 S-293 R2. PCGS graded AU-50. Five points sharper but there is a diagonal scratch under star 12 that nearly reaches the lowest curl. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and attractive and there are only a few trivial contact marks, none notable. Glossy light olive and chocolate brown. E-MDS, Breen state I. There are fine die flowlines from the dentil tips but the repunching on the upper part of the 3 is still sharp. A small, shallow low spot (caused by debris on the die) weakens the right side of the D in UNITED. Our grade is VF35. A nice Classic Head cent. The attribution and Widok Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 7 finer. (PCGS # 36514) Value $3,250 - UP
