Tiffany & Co., Large, Rare Sterling Silver Presentation Bowl, Yale University Scroll and Key Society, 1934. Rare and beautiful Tiffany & Co. sterling silver presentation bowl was created for the storied "secret society" of Yale University, The Scroll and Key Society. Scroll and Key was founded in 1842 and is considered one of the "Big Three" secret societies along with Wolf's Head and Skull and Bones and evidently the most wealthy with its members direct descendants of those who came to America on the Mayflower. On campus, Scroll and Key has one of the most striking buildings of any university, it's Moorish architecture by the architect of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and its ornate bronze doors are landmarks of American architecture. The bowl was presented to a member, wealthy heir, George Brewster Loud, Jr. on the occasion of his marriage to Shirley Oleta Ewald. A bit of research finds this successful couple married until death and lived in Grosse Point, Michigan. It is an impressive example of Tiffany & Co. craftsmanship; a hand forged and formed sterling silver bowl with applied elements including the Scroll and Key emblem.

Along the rim it has individual members names of the Yale Scroll And Key Society that reads like a Who’s Who of industry and society including Paul Mellon (philanthropist, horse breeder), Peter Folger (coffee titan) James Cox Brady (NY financier and horse racing chairman), Horace Reynolds Moorhead (Reynolds Aluminum, Corning Glass) and Chauncey Keep Hubbard (Laughlin Steel Corportation).

In stunning condition, no dings or scratches, gorgeous silver brilliance. 5¾ x 10½ x 10½". Total weight 43 troy ounces. Vintage Tiffany Sterling Silver in this condition is highly prized and this piece is no exception. Estimated Value $2,000 - UP
