Binder, Erwin. Nebula 2. (1934-1993) Veteran of the United States Air Force, Binder learned to work with metal and stone and elements of design as an employee at his family's jewelry business. With a passionate desire to develop those skills further, he enrolled at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and subsequently produced numerous monumental public sculptures throughout Southern California in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also deeply influenced by Mexican culture, most notably the surreal portrait work of José Clemente Orozco, when working with bronze, onyx and stone. Offered is here is a spectacular sculpture of banded onyx entitled Nebula 2. Only one of two carved in the early 80s, the sculpture is typical of Binder's lyrical, abstract style, which always maintained vestiges of figuration. Here, his sinuous, organic creation of a mother and child together as one in the universe, whether one interprets that as cocoon, a womb or even a shell. Striking yet calming, sculpture alone measures 16 x 23x 10" and appears to balance on a 15 x 18 x 4" marble base. Sculpture is sold with a custom built 17 x 20 x 27" wood base. A very special piece by a most admired Los Angeles artist whose works can be seen in public spaces and collections throughout Southern California.

Daniel Allen Cohen. "Wealth Bar". Daniel Allen Cohen, a young artist in Los Angeles has made quite the name for himself at some of the largest contemporary and prestigious art shows throughout the world including Art Basel in Miami Offered is one of a series of his creations he calls "Precious Bars" this particular example "Wealth Bar". Notes from his website, Thisisaddictive.com explains: The trope is that children crave chocolate while adults crave money and power. In his series, Precious Bars, Cohen hybridizes these cross-generational desires and presents over-sized objects of nostalgia, lust and yearning. To do this, he parodies packaging of iconic chocolate bars that promise sugary treats, slightly altering their text to seduce with promise of wealth. For example, Mr. Goodbar becomes Mr. Goldbar, KitKat turns into GoldRush and Heath changes to Wealth. Each package is torn partially open, revealing not the chocolate of the original but the power signifier of the pastiche: stacks of money or bars of gold. This one is signed and numbered on verso on black credit card-like COA Artist Proof 1/1. It notes it was purchased in 2017 and restored in 2020. Bar hangs from a metal flange on verso or can just set atop a shelf. 12 x 47". The heavily lacquered bills are Hollywood studio prop money, the bar wrapping heavy gloss finished and plasticized paper. Estimated Value $5,000 - UP

Remington, Frederic (After). "The Bronco Buster" Numbered Edition 50/100. (1861-1909) Bronzes by Frederic Remington are among the most widely reproduced of all metal sculptures. Some unauthorized copies of his work have been traced to at least 1920. But since the copyright protection expired in the 1960s, the number of reproductions in the market has exploded with most being terribly cast and with poor detail. Offered is one of the finest reproductions of Remington's most famous sculptures. From bottom of bronze base to top of hat, sculpture measures just at 22½" tall. Marble base measures 2 x 17 x 9". Sculpture is very heavy (about 90 pounds) and unsafe for glass top table display, but desks, tables or credenzas are fine. The piece is numbered 50/100, has Remington's signature imprint and with a small mounted title plaque attached to side of base.
The quality of this casting cannot be stressed enough. The market is flooded with cheap reproductions in the hundreds of dollars price ranges and in sizes that belie the original 22½" and 32" tall originals with most standing only 11" to 16" mounted on cheap marble. This is a phenomenal gallery quality reproduction. Due to the weight, we recommend outside shipping which we have on call who is reliable and fair. Local pickup is also an option. A phenomenal work. Estimated Value $4,000 - UP

Remington, Frederic (After). The Wicked Pony. (1861-1909) In Remington's third sculpture, "The Wicked Pony," Remington reversed the dominance of the cowboy over horse as depicted in his most popular work, "Bronco Buster" (an exceptionally fine posthumous casting is available in this auction.) Inspired by a real-life event he witnessed, this Remington bronze sculpture depicts a fallen rider attempting to wrestle his horse to the ground in a desperate attempt to regain control. Grabbing the animal's ear with one hand, the rider's body is vulnerable as the horse retaliates by kicking the rider with his hind legs. In The Wicked Pony, Frederic Remington has memorialized the harsh reality and untamed forces of the Old West. Offered is a posthumous casting of this work likely from the 1970's and certainly a quality piece. Sculpture measures 19 x 18 x 7½" and sits on a crescent shaped marble base 1¼ x 10 x 20". In excellent condition, we note only a small discoloration to back side of marble near base of bronze. Estimated Value $1,200 - UP

Tassananchalee, Kamol. Artists Colors (Acrylic, Bamboo and Resin). (1944-) Born and living in Taiwan, Kamol Tassananchalee has made quite an impact in the American art market as his paintings and mixed media sculptures have found broad appeal. In Los Angeles, his work could be frequently found in a number of restaurants established by Wolfgang Puck and decorated by then wife Barbara Lazaroff, including Chinois and Tsala Thai. Offered is a mixed media abstraction of three-dimensional tubes of art paint made of paper, gouache and bamboo contained in a custom lucite shadowbox which can be displayed on a table or hung on the wall. The center tube is particularly whimsical in that it has been "unzipped" with close examination revealing indeed a zipper visible on the open "fly" of the tube. In excellent condition, each tube is hand signed by the artist and each dated 1978. Art work and shadow box measures 15½ x 36 x 5". Estimated Value $2,500 - UP
