August Bechtler, 1 DOLLAR CAROLINA, 27 gr. 21 carats. PCGS graded AU-55. CAC. PQ. Lovely golden toning deeper around the devices and more light gold in the open areas, with prooflike fields on both sides. A coin that should be MS-62 or better. A few minor reverse hairlines otherwise a near gem. The PCGS Pop shows the finest example graded MS-64 and 6 graded MS-63. This coin might grade near the top of the population when regraded. Housed in a First Generation Holder. Pop 103; 85 finer at PCGS. Estimate Value $4,000 - 5,000

1852 U.S. Assay Office $10 Gold, 884 THOUS. K-12a, Rarity 4. PCGS graded AU-50. PQ. Housed in a special PCGS holder with foil tag. The surfaces are clean and attractive when closely examined, and the color is a blend of deeper orange gold with brighter yellow gold. The devices are sharp and show just a touch of wear on the highest points. Scarce as a Territorial issue, and in high demand when found this pleasing. Estimate Value $10,000 - 11,000

1855 Wass, Molitor & Co. (San Francisco) $10 Gold. K-6, High Rarity 5. PCGS graded AU-53. This is one of the later production issues from the Territorial gold series. Struck in 1855 from an earlier unused obverse die of 1852, with the final digit of the date drilled out of the die and replaced with a "5" to reflect the current year. The reverse is always weakly struck. Clean surfaces and attractive for this elusive issue. Housed in a special PCGS holder with foil tag. Pop 9; 8 finer, 6 in 55, 2 in 58. Estimate Value $19,000 - 20,000
