Lot 1140
1840-D. PCGS graded AU-50. A decent strike from a late die state, exhibiting clearly defined die cracks on both sides. Very interesting and extremely rare in grades above very fine. Lightly toned. Only 3,532 struck, with under 100 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. This one offers both attractive surfaces and great color, with the added bonus of radial die cracks on the reverse, the obverse with a bisecting crack. Clearly neither die lasted much longer after striking this coin. Pop 10; 12 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7719) Estimate Value $4,500 - UP

Lot 1141
1841-D. PCGS graded AU-55. Very well struck, lustrous and untoned. The surfaces show a few minor handling marks, primarily in the fields, typical of a lightly circulated quarter eagle. This date and mint are quite rare at this lofty grade level. First off only 75 or so exist in all grades, and this particular coin is tied with three others as one of the top examples known today, nudged out by two mint state coins. Pictured as the best available coin in the CoinFacts website for this date and mint. The eye appeal is high and the rich blazing luster add to the desirability. Only 4,164 struck. Pop 4; 2 finer, 1 in 62, 1 in 63. (PCGS # 7722) Estimate Value $5,000 - UP

A powerful condition rarity that will never go our of style. Only 4,164 struck. Pop 8; 6 finer, 4 in 55, 1 in 62, 1 in 63. (PCGS # 7722) Estimate Value $4,000 - UP

1847-D. PCGS graded AU-55. CAC. Well struck exhibiting light frosty greenish-golden surfaces. While this Dahlonega issue is considered one of the more plentiful issues, CoinFacts still estimates only 225 examples survived for collectors today. That's not many considering the popularity of this Mint and the number of collectors seeking an example. The surfaces and eye appeal are top notch for this issue. Only 15,784 struck. 1848-D. PCGS graded MS-63. A wonderful bold strike with lovely frosty mint luster and delicate toning. A choice uncirculated example. Unsurpassed in quality, and tied with a select group as one of the finest seen by both grading services. The strike is memorable, and the surface quality simply outstanding for this late 1840s Dahlonega gold coin. A formidable offering for the specialist. Only 13,771 struck. 1850-D. PCGS graded AU-58. Boldly struck with delicate light golden mint luster throughout. The obverse is particularly sharp. Clean surfaces that show no deep or detracting marks. For the collector, this eye appealing example is perfect to consider, as there are not Mint State coins that are considerably finer given that the finest seen by PCGS is MS-62. As such, we highly recommend this still elusive AU-58! Only 12,148 struck. Pop 19; 8 finer, 3 in 60, 1 in 61, 4 in 62. (PCGS # 7757) Estimate Value $2,500 - UP

1854-D. PCGS graded AU-50. Mostly well struck, the legs of the eagle are a little soft as expected on this key issue. Some faint hairline scratches on the obverse. This is truly a rare date and mint which is seldom offered in any grade. Only 1,760 struck, with about 70 to 90 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. Pop 10; 20 finer at PCGS. Lot 1161
1855-D. PCGS graded MS-60. Well struck exhibiting olive-green surfaces with light golden-orange highlights. This is an unusual coin in that it grades MS-60, which is a fact as there is no wear on the high points. However, there are some scattered scuffs on the reverse, two on the Legend surrounding and a couple on the eagle and shield. Thankfully these old nicks don't appear in the fields, and thus they somewhat blend into the lettering and designs. This is one of the key dates to the series, and a coin that is seldom offered in any grade. Only 1,123 struck, with an estimated 50 to 60 surviving examples. Pop 2; only 1 finer in 63.
