1829 N-5 R3 Medium Letters F15. Nice glossy medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the devices. Essentially flawless; a small pinprick over the left side of the E in ONE being the only notable mark. Softly struck, as nearly always on this variety, so grading is difficult. Flashy flowline luster shows in protected areas on the reverse and the surfaces are consistent with those of a higher grade coin. MDS with minor crumbling in the dentils just below star 3. 1829 N-9 R4 Medium Letters VF30. Very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown. Smooth and virtually void of contact marks offering excellent eye appeal. Satiny mint frost shows in the protected areas. Most of the stars and parts of the wreath are softly impressed, as usual, but overall this is a very nice example of a tough die variety. Has the surfaces and eye appeal of a solid EF40 coin. MDS with a die crack arcing from star 4 to star 12. Near the lower end of the condition census. 1830 N-5 R3 Large Letters PCGS AU Details Altered Surfaces. Frosty light to medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints of the devices. This cent is virtually flawless; the only defects are a microscopic planchet lamination on the right side of the N in ONE (as struck) and a tiny rim nick over the E in STATES. I have no idea where the "Altered Surfaces" assessment came from. LDS with the usual soft strike on most of the stars and the upper part of the hair bun. Our grade is VF35, but the coin has the surfaces and satiny mint frost of a higher grade. A good candidate for a "crackout." Estimate Value $300 - UP Ex Fred H. Borcherdt-J. R. 1844 N-6 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Frosty olive brown and steel. Satiny and very attractive with just a few minor marks. A thin, very light horizontal nick high on the neck, a short vertical scratch from the dentils under star 12, and a collection of small digs on the edge even with ER in AMERICA are the only marks.
