1823 Private Restrike PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Attractive glossy medium brown and chocolate. The fields are slightly reflective thanks to a fresh die lapping that left behind faint die polishing lines in the fields on both sides. A small spot of reddish chocolate toning in the field off the nose tip is the only mark. Very nice, close to choice. M-LDS with an additional die crack from the dentils left of star 1 to the chin and cheek where it meets up with the earlier bisecting crack. The obverse rim cud now reaches to over star 7, and the cud break is especially strong on this example thanks to being struck slightly off center to K-4. Lot 404
1827 N-7 R3 EF40. Sharpness mint state but the obverse fields have been skillfully smoothed, the work nearly undetectable. There is shallow reddish crud hidden in the hair curls and traces of similar crud in the dentils at stars 10-13. I suspect the smoothing was done to remove a bit of stain from the fields. Frosty steel and chocolate brown. Sharply struck EDS. The reverse is sharp, lustrous, and very attractive. Worth a close look. Estimate Value $300 - UP
