Antique Brass and Mahogany Lapdesk. When closed the lapdesk measures 6½" high, 20" across, and 9¾" wide; it opens to 20½". With leather desktop bordered with embossed gold gilt. Having four compartments, one with cover and one holding an inkwell. The longest compartment holds an Aikin gold fountain pen in original case. Key is not present. One can imagine the owner escaping the humidity of the East Coast, before air conditioners, by taking the train to his summer home in Pasadena and keeping up with his correspondence as the landscape slips by. Louis C. Tiffany Furnaces, Inc., Favrile Glass Inkwell, Early 20th Century. Objects designed in the medium of Favrile glass by Louis C. Tiffany during the early 1900s are highly prized and are an enduring legacy of the artistic and creative genius of Louis Comfort Tiffany and his artisans. Offered is this extremely appealing lidded inkwell of gilt bronze and glass inlays surrounding with the rosette top in beautiful blue, violet and pink tones giving the appearance of a stained glass window. Stamped on verso Louis C Tiffany Furnaces Inc. with Favrile 305 just below. In overall excellent condition given its 100 years--no chipping to the glass insets surrounding or on top, no dents, the interior of well exceptionally clean however is missing the small interior glass well. 1916 Michigan State Fair Sterling Silver and Bronze Art Deco Trophy Cup. The Michigan State Fair is one of the oldest fairs in the nation, hosting its first in 1849. Offered is an extremely rare trophy on the occasion of the championship mare named Percheron owened by Lonzon McClain of Lima, Ohio from 1916. Trophy is impressive, standing 12" tall, 3" in diameter, and with handles 6½" is made of bronze with sterling silver Michigan state seal and medallion inlay on one side and cascading foliate design on the back. Outstanding condition for 100+ years in age and a singularly distinct decorator item. Estimate Value $600 - UP

Pennsylvania Dutch Geburts und Tauf-Schein -- Birth and Baptismal Certificate. In German, 16¾ x 13¼". Printed by G.S. Peters, Harrisburg, Pa. For a girl named Hannah, born Aug. 14, 1835. Script is very faint. Hand-lettered, color printing. The central text printed in Fraktur with blanks infilled by hand in a decorated rectangular frame in the center of the document. A basket with flowers and one of the verses are below it. Two verses are in frames in the upper corners. The main text is flanked by two large inward-facing angels with lyres, one holding a wreath and the other with a bird. A spread-winged eagle with a banner in its beak is in the upper center. In each lower corner are two birds perched on a tree with leaves and fruits. Between them are two baskets with flowers as well as three bunches of flowers. The entire page is enclosed in a decorative border. Framed to 18½ x 15½". Estimate Value $200 - UP

Original Section of Railroad Track from Florida East Coast Railway, Florida Keys and Denver & Rio Grande Locomotive Blueprint. Great for collectors of railway ephemera. First a section of track from the Over-sea Railway in Florida Keys built by Henry Flagler (founder of Standard Oil) and completed in 1912 and called "The Eight Wonder of the World", Unfortunately it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1935. Section of track is 4½ x 6 x 5" and has a battery clock set inside (untested) and plaque identifying authenticity and provenance. Section weighs 10 pounds. The other is a re-print of a the design of the locomotive for the Denver & Rio Grande Locomotive, 1881. Excellent presentation piece blueprint measures 45 x 21" printed on Clear Line Blueprint Bond Guaranteed 80% Rag which is seen in reverse on verso, In excellent condition with only one small puncture. Will be shipped rolled and separate from rail segment. Estimate Value $100 - UP

Three Magnificent Antique Victorian Era Tartan Ware Hour Glasses. From the mid to late 1800's when interest in Scotland grew due the purchase of Balmoral by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, tourists were eager to purchase mementos of their travels. Many small artifacts were manufactured to fulfill this purpose and they are now antique and highly collectible. Tartan Ware also incorporated many of the different identifying plaids of the Scottish clans, printed them on thick paper and then covered the wood accessories with remarkable exactness. Offered here three (3) hour glasses in graduated sizes, the smallest being 3 minute and the other two something like 10 minutes. The tallest is 8 x 4 x 4 " and marked "Cameron" in very small print on the edge of one of the bases. The medium is 5½ x 3 x 3" with "McDuff" in very small print on the edge of one of the bases. The smallest is 3½ x 2 x 2" and is not marked with the name of its tartan pattern but looks like "Stuart". All are in excellent condition. Estimate Value $500 - UP

Three 19th Century, Antique Victorian Tunbridge Ware by T. Barton: Small Slope Writing Box, Temperature Gauges, One with Compass. Tunbridge Ware is a form of decoratively inlaid woodwork typically found in boxes and desk accessories. The decoration typically consists of a mosaic of many very small pieces of different colored woods that form a pictorial vignette, frequently called marquetry. The Tunbridge area of Kent, England was the home of Thomas Barton and Edmund Nye's workshop which, during its heyday, employed upwards to 40 people between 1830 - 1900. These pieces are highly collected and Goldberg Auctions is pleased to offer three (3) exceptional examples. 1.) Mini or small traveling slope writing desk boasting extraordinary craftsmanship. Hinged lids open to reveal area for tiny ink wells, areas for small accessories, the slope is leather trimmed velveteen fabric to compose notes that also lifts to reveal another compartment. A phenomenal piece 1½ x 5 x 4" and with both hinged lids open 1½ x 8½ x 4" Brown label on verso T. Barton late Nye Manufacturer Mount Ephraim and Parade, Tunbridge Wells. 2.) Cylindrical table temperature gauge with a compass mounted in top 5 x 3 x 3" boasting the usual T. Barton and Nye artistry with label on base. 3.) An even more impressive table temperature gauge with floral and "falling cube" marquetry at top and along base, a substantial and solid piece. Paper label on base is Edmund Nye, Tunbridge Wells. 170 Vintage Original Cigar Box Labels: Extremely Clean Two-Binder Collection. One of the more interesting collectibles in tobacciana is the artwork from from cigar boxes. Like fruit and vergetable labels, many of these are stunning works, with most having embossed details, fantastic colors and gilt highlighting. Further these labels when matted and framed present beautifully. There are definitely sought pieces here but impossible to list all 170 labels. In person preview of these two folios is encouraged, but to name a few: Prospecta, La Confesion, Epco, Big Wolf, El Gaurdo, Camel, Infanta, Uncle Jake's Nickel Seegar, White Cat, Wizard, Diamond Crown, One Nieto, Conrad's Gold Dollar, First National, Club House, Christie Girl, Reina Bella, La Balca, Omar (on prayer rug) and Wide-Awake.
