Original Rotational Hand Controller Flown ASTP, from the Personal Property of Donald "Deke" Slayton on Presentation Mount. History in the palm of your hand. From the personal property of Apollo Docking Module Pilot, Donald "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993), the rotational hand controller of the Command Module. ASTP was the last manned US space mission until the first Space Shuttle flight in April 1981. ASTP was the first joint U.S.–Soviet space flight, as a symbol of the policy of détente that the two superpowers were pursuing at the time. It involved the docking of an Apollo Command/Service Module and the Soviet Soyuz 19 capsule. It also marked the only space flight of U.S. astronaut Deke Slayton, who was one of the original Mercury 7 Astronauts. Controller was presented to Slayton, mounted on a walnut base with plates identifying from "ASTP July 15, 1975 - July 24, 1975" and identified as the "Rotational Hand Controller." Base is 8 x 5" and controller stands just at 4½" tall. Extraordinary, museum quality artifact. Estimate Value $9,500 - UP

Flown aboard ASTP and property of Apollo Docking Module Pilot Donald "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993) is this Beta cloth name tag 2 x 5¼" cut from a much larger item. Slayton's name has stitching on all four sides close to his name. Measures 2 x 5¼" in overall excellent condition with light soiling from use, sealed in protective plastic while on exhibit at Kennedy Space Center. Comes with LOA. Estimate Value $600 - UP

Flown NASA Patch Aboard ASTP from the Personal Collection of Donald "Deke" Slayton. From the personal property of Apollo Docking Module Pilot, Donald "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993), ASTP was the last manned US space mission until the first Space Shuttle flight in April 1981. ASTP was the first joint U.S.–Soviet space flight, as a symbol of the policy of détente that the two superpowers were pursuing at the time. Offered is a large NASA patch 4 x 6¼" flown aboard ASTP. Patch is of Beta cloth with letters screen printed and stitched on outermost borders on all four sides. In overall excellent condition, evidence of use in light soiling and scuffs to letters and blue paper residue on verso possible from a scrap book. Comes with LOA. It has been years since Goldberg Auctions has offered a flown NASA patch. Estimate Value $750 - UP

Flown, Laminated, Beta Cloth, Border Stitched, US Flag Property of Donald "Deke" Slayton Aboard ASTP. From the personal property of Apollo Docking Module Pilot, Donald "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993), ASTP was the last manned US space mission until the first Space Shuttle flight in April 1981. ASTP was the first joint U.S.–Soviet space flight, as a symbol of the policy of détente that the two superpowers were pursuing at the time. Offered is a US Flag flown on ASTP. This flag is completely different from the flown flags for commemorative use which were ultra-light and of very thin fabric. This US flag is made of Beta cloth that has been laminated, akin to oilcloth, the flag completely stitched on all four sides and measures 4½ x 6½". It presently has been lightly tacked to acid free cardstock from being on display. Lifting to view flag on verso, there is some blue paper lift likely from a scrapbook. In over all excellent condition, most definitely exhibits use with a tiny hole in lower right corner and some creasing and soiling. Comes with LOA and an excellent flown piece for any level of collector. Estimate Value $1,250 - UP

44 Year Old Soviet Food Tube of Pickled Lamb from Apollo-Soyuz Mission, Property of Donald "Deke" Slayton. Apollo Docking Module Pilot, Donald "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993) returned from his Apollo-Soyuz mission with this container of Pickled Lamb, packaged like a large tube of toothpaste. A rare flown item, know the tube is no longer supple, the contents dried out completely and there are four very small punctures given its 44 years in age. Nevertheless an immensely appealing item for every level of collector, still boasting the contents label at neck and bright colors of the Russian flag. Tube measures 7 x 2½ x 2½" and comes with LOA. Apollo Docking Module Pilot, Donald "Deke" Slayton (1924-1993) returned from his Apollo-Soyuz mission with this package of dehydrated "Table Bread", packaged in a seal pack. A rare flown item, know the contents are no longer supple, with two cracked in half. But package still has Russian and English label, with contents looking like dog kibbles. Package measures 6 x 3" with two thin velcro straps on back of package when on display at the Kennedy Space Center. Still an excellent flown item going on 44 years old and highly collectible. Mercury 7 Astronauts: Deke Slayton's Honorary Deputy Sheriff's Badge, Harris County Texas 10/15/1963 with ID in Original Wallet (1924-1993) Deke Slayton was an American World War II pilot, aeronautical engineer, and test pilot who was selected as one of the original NASA Mercury Seven astronauts. He became NASA's first Chief of the Astronaut Office and Director of Flight Crew Operations, and was responsible for NASA crew assignments. After years of being sidelined due to health, he finally flew on the Apollo-Soyuz Mission. Offered is an extremely unique and personal item. Offered is Deke Slayton's Honorary Deputy Sheriff Mounted Posse police badge in original leather wallet with ID card issued by Sheriff J.B. Kline, State of Texas, County of Galveston. This was presented to Slayton on October 15th, 1963 with his name D.K. Slayton stamped into badge. Most certainly rare and unique. Estimate Value $600 - UP

Sensenich Wood Propeller 54", From the Personal Property of Deke Slayton. From the personal property of Deke Slayton (1924-1993), a finely crafted wood propeller manufactured in Lancaster, PA. Minor evidence of use on the propeller: a ding to one edge (smaller than a dime) and two slight scorch marks near core. Propeller would make for a striking display wall piece with the craftsmanship very much apparent. 54" x 6 x 5" and would make for a striking display. While on exhibit at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, no one seemed to know why it was in Slayton's possession. LOA included. Estimate Value $600 - UP

Collection of Apollo-Soyuz Items Including One of Kind Collection of 16 Polaroids of Collectible Items Taken To Space. Interesting collection from one of the most recognized former NASA employees whose collectibles from throughout his career have certainly added immeasurably to keeping the history of NASA alive and the collectors who enjoy being the guardians for the next generation. In this collection are 16 Polaroids, still in outstanding condition, recording the items flown in 1975 on the ASTP flight. The photos show the number of US, Russian, Jordanian, Presidential, and numerous other flags including a Michigan Tech banner and City of Wethorford, OK flag. and numerous medallions, militaria and even a ring. These could eventually prove invaluable in keeping a register of items flown. Also included are Six (6) ASTP insignias on Beta cloth, a 12 x 15" NASA flag silkscreened on both sides of this double weight and hemmed flag, two (2) separate autographs by legendary entertainer, Jack Benny on Apollo 9 cards as he was present, invited VIP guest for the launch, and a mint copy of NASA's SP-246 hardbound publication of Lunar Photographs from Apollos 8, 10 and 11, published in 1971.
