  Israel. Judaica, Two Rare Presentation Medals. 1962. Rare Israel Shavit Rocket Presentation Medal. The obverse of the medal shows a rocket soaring into the sky from Israel, and the biblical verse "There shall come a star from Jacob" (Num. 25:17). The medal's reverse depicts in an incused square the State medal, the words "presented to", the signature of David Ben Gurion, and his name and function of Prime Minister. Only 450 of these official State of Israel medals were minted at Emanograph. They were not sold to the public. Medal's specifications are 59mm., 118 gm. of .935 fine silver. About Uncirculated, with some scattered speck of toning. A very attractive and rare medal. Israel. Hebraic, Important and Scarce Group of 7 Hungary, Poland and Norway Medieval Coins. Jewish moneyers placed Hebrew letters on the small silver coins that they minted for Hungarian and Polish kings. One or more of these scarce coins belongs in every collection of Judaic numismatics. They also should sell well on ebay. Lot includes from Hungary: Andreas II (1205-1235) Tet above crescent & star/Judaea Capta type; Bela IV (1235-1270) portrait with Hebrew "Tet/Eagle; tet within inscription/inscription (Rethy 244); Count Chenok under Bela IV Chet within wreath/fleur de lis; Stefan V (1270-1292) portrait/Aleph between two doves. A very rare issue from Poland: Mieszko III (1173-1202) facing king/Hebrew inscription. Mieszko III, 1173-77 & 1195-1202, gave a life grant to the Jews to lease the state mint, and Polish currency in the last two decades of the 12th century was stamped solely in Hebrew (see photo). And the famous large silver 4 Mark from Norway featuring large Hebrew inscription for JEHOVAH, issued by Christian IV in 1644. All are Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Ref: Friedenberg, p 3, Extremely Fine, with small filled hole at top; trio (2 bronze, 1 aluminum) of Korn Jude Style Naked Jew on Grain Bushel, 1923, [Friedrich Wilhelm] Fritz Hörnlein, Germany, 1923, struck medal, 38 mm. Ref: Kirschner 30. Large group of aluminum and magnesium Lodz Ghetto coins in various denomination, including a 1942 10 Pfennig from Rosenblum, indicating "Finest we've seen." And a 1923 badge with a large fleur-de-lis and Hebrew inscription ("Be strong and of good courage") issued by the Dror Youth Movement in Lodz. Plus a brass penny and bronze 3 pence, with holed centers, from an Australian Internment Camp, and two Jewish Hobo Nickels. The first note is from Mittelbau aka Dora.01 RM, reverse legend reads: "The safekeeping of funds for these vouchers is maintained by the Central Administration of the SS canteens in the Mittelbau area garrison. Counterfeiting will be dealt with in the most severe manner;" below the legend is a stylized six-pointed emblem and the serial number, AU. The other 2 notes are 2 & 10 Marks from the Lodz Ghetto, VG. Israel. Extremely Rare Pattern Coins and a Medal. Before deciding on the final design of the first-ever officially sponsored and minted medal (Judaea Capta/ Israel Liberata) in 1958, several patterns were struck by John Pinches of London. Rejected trial strikes are known to exist in copper and silver-plate with diameters of 27 mm, 42 mm, 43 mm and 45 mm. This lot includes one of the very desirable 27mm Pinches patterns, ex-J J Van Grover, brown uncirculated. Israel issued only one coin dated in their first year of independence (1948)-the 25 mils denomination. Sheqel.info indicates that "Uniface, reverse only; few dozen minted." There are 2 examples of this great rarity in this lot, both weighing 3.1 gm (as they should), grading Extremely Fine. An important group for a serious collector. Estimate Value $500 - UP
