* The 1927 silver coins series - from Crown to silver threepence - saw a complete transformation of the reverse coinage designs of the earlier part of the reign. This was Kruger Gray's heraldic series. The Royal Mint made a small number of 6-coin silver sets with a matte proof finish, apparently for photographic purposes. Excessively rare.

There were several examples of each denomination made by the Royal Mint as matte proofs, ostensibly to facilitate photography. Linecar and Stone lists a complete set of matt proofs, from gold to bronze coins, in a Glendining's auction of 4th April 1966. In the 1980s, when the Norweb collection of coins was sold by Spink, a set of silver and bronze specimens was also offered for sale.
