1799/8 S-188 R4 Overdate 9 over 8 PCGS graded AG3. Glossy chocolate brown. There are some tiny pits along the left edge of the portrait but no verdigris. The only notable mark is a rim nick over the second T in STATES. Essentially just a well worn cent with decent surfaces for the grade. The upper half of the date is clear but the lower half is worn into the rim, and LIBERTY is easily readable. The reverse is weaker with about half the devices still visible, and most of those are barely visible. EDS. Our grade is Fair-2+ (Obverse AG3+, Reverse Fair-2). Estimate Value $3,000 - UP

1799 S-189 R2 PCGS Genuine, Good Details Scratch. Sharpness of Good but there is minor porosity scattered in the fields and protected areas on both sides while the devices are smooth. The porosity is strongest at the top of the 179 but there is no verdigris. A rim dent under the 7 weakens that numeral and there are a couple fine scratches from the throat to the lowest curl. Lightly smoothed and retoned an attractive glossy medium chocolate brown. Some of the legend outside the wreath is fading into the rim but everything except for STA remains easily readable. MDS. Our grade is net AG3. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $2,500 - UP

1803 S-264 R4+ Large Date, Small Fraction PCGS graded AG3, CAC Approved. Attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown and steel. No roughness or verdigris. The surfaces are quite nice, especially for a rare variety that so often comes with corrosion or other serious defects. Only a few trivial contact marks; a pair of closely spaced parallel nicks just left of the fraction may help identify this cent. LDS, Breen state III late. The die failure outlined by the crack at STAT is severe and that area has become a retained cud that is clearly raised on the left end. Graded G4 and above average by Noyes, his photo #59851. Our grade is G4 as well. Perhaps the uneven wear caused by the very late die state influenced the graders at PCGS. Regardless, this is a very nice example of an important "Redbook" variety. Estimate Value $9,000 - UP
