Lot 1680
1920-S. PCGS graded MS-62. Untoned with blazing mint luster. Although the mintage of 558,0000 pieces implies availability, this is in fact one of the rarest of the "collectible" Saint-Gaudens double eagles. It is estimated that only 150 1920-S double eagles still exist. The remainder were apparently melted in the 1930s. Hence collector pressure is quite high when a nice example like this coin turns up. Fully struck, scattered light bagmarks as expected, and a pleasing coin for the date collector who needs an example of this rare branch mint issue. Popular key date. Pop 17; 31 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 9171) Estimate Value $45,000 - 50,000
