Lot 1540
1850. PCGS graded MS-62. Frosty, well struck and untoned. This is the first year that the double eagle was struck for circulation, naturallly demand far outstripped supply and no one could afford to put such a valuable coin back to retain it at this time. Not many at least, hence their rarity today in high grades like this. Bold and beautiful with undiminished frost on Liberty's face and hair, keeping the eye appeal at the highest levels. Don't miss out if you want a really nice example of this important launching date of this important series. Pop 38; 18 finer, 3 in 62+, 11 in 63, 4 in 64. (PCGS # 8902) Estimate Value $30,000 - 33,000

Lot 1541
1851-O. NGC graded AU-58. A condition rarity this well preserved with glorious mint luster, a bold strike and super clean surfaces. This is not a typical Philadelphia Mint coin, rare enough when found this well preserved, but a New Orleans issue. This is a prized condition rarity when found this close to mint state and an important offering for the specialist. Hint of light gold tone. Nice details. Pop 72; 20 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 8905) Estimate Value $13,000 - 14,000

1857-S. Spiked Shieled. PCGS graded MS-65+. CAC. PQ. A superb untoned gem that offers full blazing mint luster and clean surfaces. One minor bagmark will serve to identify this gem, located just below Liberty's mouth. The eye appeal and lovely quality of this piece will always stand tall. Notably the "spiked shield" refers to a tiny die line extending left off the shield line just below the left wing. Rare and desirable at the gem or finer level as noted here. Recovered from the wreck of the shipwreck of the S. S. Central America, which sunk in 1857 (PCGS # 70000) Estimate Value $18,000 - UP
