Lot 1430
1854-O. PCGS graded AU-58. The only "O" Mint $3 gold coin. Some luster visible in the protected areas and sharply struck too. The surfaces are pleasing with just enough wear to smooth over any early handling marks but retain nearly all the definition on the high points of the design. A popular key date that is always in high collector demand. Only 24,000 struck. Pop 29; 2 finer, 1 in 61, 1 in 62. (PCGS # 7971) Estimate Value $15,000 - 17,000

Lot 1432
1857-S. NGC graded AU-55. A nice untoned coin. Nice surfaces and original, with typical light nicks scattered over both sides. These were struck right at the peak of the Califnornia Gold Rush where most of the "easy" gold was found in the first couple of years, by 1857 the largest mines were in full operation and gold was flowing out of every source that it could be found. Production peaked in 1857, and started a long slow decline in 1858. Hence this $3 gold piece represents the historic heyday of that era in a most special way. Only 14,000 struck. Pop 28; 12 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7977) Estimate Value $5,500 - 6,000

Lot 1436
1877. PCGS graded MS-61. Rich golden toning. Reflective fields on both sides. Only 1,468 struck, and this is one of the finer examples seen with full Mint State surfaces that show just a few scattered handling marks. The strike is sharp and pleasing. Notice the date which is placed midway above the bow and DOLLARS, as needed to confirm this is a business strike. From the original tiny mintage of 1,468 perhaps as many as 200 exist today, many mishandled and most showing some degree of circulation. Not so here, as this example was set aside at the time of issue and carefully preserved since that time. An elegant and important offering for the date collector of this challenging series. Pop 7; 6 finer, 4 in 62, 1 in 64, 1 in 64+. (PCGS # 7999) Estimate Value $22,000 - UP
