Lot 1394
1852-C. NGC graded MS-65. Among the finest known. This example shows an extra fragment of a post below the 1 in the date, and is one of two die pairings known to produce this rare Charlotte issue. The surfaces are satin smooth with ample luster to please the eye and the strike is sharper than commonly seen. The fields and devices are wonderfully free of contact marks, keeping the grade at the gem level. An astonishing coin to find so well preserved from this Southern mint. Only 9,434 struck. Pop 5; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7518) Estimate Value $18,000 - 19,000

Lot 1395
1854. PCGS graded MS-65. A lovely well struck coin. Has lots of eye appeal for this classic Type I design with the small head of Liberty on the obverse. Delicate signs of die clashing are found in the reverse fields. Liberty's hair curls are particular well struck, and the surfaces are ablaze with classic orange gold luster. An impressive example of this important type issue. Pop 43; 28 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7525) Estimate Value $2,200 - 2,300

Lot 1399
1884. NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo. Super rich golden toning. As rarely seen on these the fields and devices offer the cameo contrast with incredible quality surfaces. Examination finds nothing to fault here, just pristine golden surfaces, mirrored fields and devices bathed in frost. The date shows strong repunching as commonly seen, usually on the Proofs of this year. Only 1,006 struck. Pop 3; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 87634) Estimate Value $30,000 - 35,000

Lot 1400
1885. PCGS graded Proof 66. A hint of gold tone. Regal color and surfaces that are outstanding in quality. The second 8 appears to have been punched over a 5, with the knob visible at the lower left loop. Further study is recommended as these Proofs are just starting to gain attention after John Dannreuther's new book on Proof coinage has ben released. Bold details. Only 1,105 struck. Pop 14; 12 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7635) Estimate Value $10,000 - 11,000
