Five Piece Saint Louis Crystal, Thistle Pattern, Partial Gilt Water Jug and Four Old Fashions. Considered one of the world's finest manufacturers of premium crystal, Saint Louis Crystal in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche, France, has dressed the finest tables around the world for hundreds of years. Offered is a five piece collection of four (4) old fashions 3½ x 3¼ x 3¼" and a supremely elegant water jug. The thistle was the original inspiration behind this service when it was created for the Nancy Exhibition in 1908 at the height of the Art Nouveau movement. The water jug looks never to have been used. No chips, cracks and the gilt remains flawless.
The four old fashions have no chips or cracks and the double gilt lines especially along the rims are intact (see photos.) However the gilt tracing within the engraving of the thistle pattern between the lines have moderate to heavy loss. Curiously, not objectionable as the delicate lines of the crystal come through and the bold gilt straight lines encircling the glasses are still very much bold. Nevertheless a handsome foursome
