Silver Icon 950/1000 Sterling, "St. Barbara," Greece, 2nd Half of 20th Century. An impressive copy of an old Byzantine icon, hand painted on panel and covered by impressively detailed high relief of 950/1000 silver. with entire panel set into black wood mount. Panel is 9 x 6½" and in excellent condition. Saint Barbara is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Her association with the lightning that killed her father has caused her to be invoked against lightning, fire and by default, explosions. Estimate Value $150 - UP

Scarce Antique Russian Samovar by Vasily Gudkov, Silver Plate on Brass. A samovar (literally "self-boiler") is a metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water in and around Russia and the Middle East. Since the heated water is typically used to make tea, many samovars have a ring-shaped attachment around the chimney to hold and heat a teapot filled with tea concentrate. Offered is a beautiful antique gourd-shaped Russian samovar by maker Vasily Gudkov. Very attractive patina with just hints of the brass showing through in a few places. Four marks at neck. Castel, Moshe: "Daughters of Jerusalem" Polished Bronze Relief on Suede Panel. (1909 – 1992) Moshe Castel was the son of a rabbi skilled in writing Torah scrolls as well as designing their silk coverings and drapery for Holy Arks in synagogues. His father's influence inspired him to enroll at the Betzalel Arts School and afterwards he studied in Paris. Upon completion of his studies, Castel pursued a career in religious abstract art and soon became one of the most respected and celebrated artists of Israel and the world; his original works are in virtually every major modern art museum of note.
Offered is a polished bronze relief entitled Daughters of Jerusalem. Actual bronze measures 20½ x 15" and is mounted on thick panel covered in red suede-like fabric with gold and silver gilt lettering and brass corner tabs which measures 33 x 22½". The entire piece is then usually framed to individual tastes with that freedom existing in this case. Bronze relief is substantial, weighing about 28 pounds and the entire piece has been kept in pristine condition. A most dramatic and compelling relief. Estimate Value $800 - UP

Contemporary Silver Plate Hanging Temple Oil Lamp with Lovely Floral Repoussé Body and Clear Glass Chimney. Contemporary silver plated temple oil lamp, certainly a traditional design but beautiful in its repoussé floral scroll work around the base and top. Oil lamp has never been used but is certainly functional after a thorough examination. The oil reservoir, burner and glass chimney are a contained unit that can be removed from the decorative base. All that is needed is lamp oil and a common flat wick and it most certainly should light. 32" long from top ring to base ring with floral repoussé body of lamp 10 x 10 x 9". Glass chimneys are easily available on line if future replacements are necessary. A very attractive piece. Estimate Value $250 - UP

Katz, Mané "Le Mur des Lamentations" (The Wailing Wall), Celebrated and Important Russian/French/Israeli Artist. (1894-1962) Raised in an orthodox Jewish family in Russia, Mané Katz had been influenced by stories of Jewish mysticism, which is reflected in his paintings. After working briefly for Russian ballets, he moved to France to study with the likes of Marc Chagall. World War II began, and he was drafted by the French and then taken prisoner by the Germans. He escaped and traveled to the United States and remained until 1945, and then returned to Paris until the end of his career, painting portraits of rabbis and works of Jewish symbolism and themes. The Mané Katz Museum is in Haifa, Israel at a mountain top villa that was once the home of the artist. Offered is an oil on canvas painted (date unknown likely late 1930s) entitled La Mur des Lamentations showing dramatically posed abstract figures in front of The Wailing Wall. Utterly compelling and arresting in it use of colors and design, this is a signature piece by the artist and very much in his celebrated style. Oil measures 30 x 24" matted and framed in rag linen and gilt wood to 39 x 34". Painting is in overall excellent condition. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP

Sharir, David: "The Seven Festivals" Complete Set of 7 Serigraphs in Original Folio and Hardcase. (1938 -) David Sharir was born in Israel, studied art in Tel Aviv and continued his studies of architecture and theatre design in Florence and Rome. In 1966 he moved to Jaffa, where he still resides today, and where he continued to elevate his unique style of creating whimsical works of Biblical themes combined with fantasy.

Offered in a monumental portfolio entitled The Seven Festivals Each serigraph meausures 30 x 22" and is signed and numbered by the artist, with this issue numbered A32/225. The festivals celebrated in Sharir's gloriously colorful works are Shavuot, Pessach, Tu BiShvat, Hannukah, Sukkot, Purim and Rosh Hashanah. Serigraph enclosed in grey linen hardcover folio which is then fitted into a hardcase covered in navy fabric and silver gilt letters 32 x 24". Serigraphs and folio in nearly mint condtion; outside hard case very fine with some scuffs and dust. 19 pounds.

Weil, Shraga: "Ancient Almanac" Complete Set of 8 Serigraphs in Orignal Hardcase Folio. (1918 - 2009) Born in 1918 in Slovakia, he studied arts at the Arts Academy of Prague until the beginning of WWII. During the war, Weil was an active member of the Hungarian resistance, mainly in forging certificates and documents. In 1947 Weil went to Israel and joined Kibbutz HaOgen. and worked as an illustrator and designer of "HaPoalim" publishers, enjoying great success over the next 4 decades. His art reflects biblical subjects, Jewish tradition, life in the Kibbutz and more.

Ancient Almanac, Safrai Gallery, Jerusalem, Israel. Limited Edition #88 of 200, each signed in pencil by Shraga Weil and serigraphs measure approximately 22½ x 15¼". Folio includes a comprehensive 16 page introduction of the works by Abba Kovman both in English and Hebrew and each serigraph protected in between title pages of each work that have been hand signed by the artist.
