[Stanley, Henry M. and David Livingstone] -- Books by Each. In Darkest Africa Or The Quest, Rescue, And Retreat Of Emin Governor Of Equatoria by Henry M. Stanley.New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1890. Hardcover. In heavy green cloth boards with embossed outline/map of Africa and gilt lettering on spines and covers. Condition: Very Good. Two volumes, 8vo, two maps in rear pockets, two steel engravings and 150 illustrations. The books recount Stanley's expedition in 1887-89 to rescue Emin Pasha (real name Eduard Schnitzer), who was under attack from Muslim rebels in southern Sudan. This expedition took place 16 years after Stanley's famous encounter with Dr. Livingstone.
