Lot 709
1846-O. NGC graded MS-63+. CAC. A nice strike which is rather extraordinary for this date and mint. Notice that every star is sharp to the central radial lines, and Liberty's curls, inclduing her lovelock are sharp and clear. The eagle's wings and shield are similarly bold. Liberty's cheek is clean and attractive, as are the surrounding fields.

The digits in the date logo punch have been derided for generations by numismatists searching for overdates, the 8 punch is ungainly, with a larger loop on the lower portion which is round, the upper loop is smaller and squat on the top. The 4 is a plain 4 with no crosslet fanciness here. As to the 6 it is larger than the other digits, and punched deeper into the die. The inner circle has ponding rings from the original die punch pressed into the die, which shrink the open center somewhat. For identification, there is a shallow slightly diagonal scratch at the top of the reverse shield, higher left and aiming down to below the right shield point. A condition rarity at this lofty grade level, and worthy of the finest collection. Scarce coin in this nice, as noted herein. Only 62,000 struck. Pop 1; 2 finer, 1 in 64, 1 in 66. (PCGS # 7743) Estimate Value $17,000 - 18,000

1905. PCGS graded Proof 66+ Cameo. CAC. PQ. Lightly toned on the reverse while the obverse is bright and untoned. Stellar eye appeal and radiant mirror fields coupled with frosty devices, that combine to make this coin exceptionally appealing. One of the best seen by todays certified experts. Only 144 struck. Pop 2; 4 finer, 3 in 67, 1 in 67+. (PCGS # 87931) Estimate Value $25,000 - UP
