1874, $5 Gold National Bank Note. The Farmers National Gold Bank, San Jose, CA. Ch. #2158. PCGS Very Good 10 Apparent. Fr-1141. KL-228. National Gold Bank Notes are ever popular among collectors, and even well worn examples are highly sought. There are currently a little more than 40 examples of the $5 Original Series issue from this San Jose bank, ranking it among the more commonly available of the nine known issuing banks; however it is not nearly as common as the more frequently seen San Francisco issues. This piece has a few minor flaws, as noted on the PCGS Currency holder, including a few small splits, tears, and repairs, and some scattered pinholes. The overall appearance is, however, quite appealing for the grade, and the all-important back design is still quite bold. Despite the low grade, this is a solid example that will suffice for most collectors. Estimate Value $4,000 - 6,000
