1878. 7 tail feathers, reverse of 1879. PCGS graded MS-66. A frosty white gem with nearly flawless surfaces and a sharp strike. This is a rare and seldom seen combination of the obverse die of 1878 but a late striking where the new style reverse die, adopted in late 1878, was used. This became known as the reverse of 1879, with the arrow feathers no longer parallel, but the top arrow feathers are placed at an angle. A condition rarity! Pop 28; 2 finer, 1 in 66 PL, 1 in 67. 1879-CC. NGC graded MS-65. This is one of the most challenging issues to find for any Morgan dollar collector. First off, its a Carson City issue, and that alone creates demand. Furthermore, the original mintage was largerly melted or lost, with perhaps 14,900 in existence today. Of that modest group, it is estimated that about 5,650 exist in various mint state grades by PCGS on their CoinFacts website. The vast majority of mint state coins fall into lower grades with gems downright rare by any measure today. Hence, the top grade Morgan dollar collectors all have to compete when a lovely gem like this comes to market. Here is a beauty that will dazzle any date and mint collector. A frosty example. Well struck and choice. Pop 54; 15 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7086) Estimate Value $20,000 - 22,000

1879-CC. NGC graded MS-62. In the original black government GSA holder. No paper work. The Rarest CC mint GSA dollar and one which is rarely offered. These are highly collectible in the original GSA boxes, and certified by NGC with a sealed band around the original GSA plastic holder. Bright white and lustrous, with no signs of toning on this example. The surfaces are decent for the grade, and most of the known 1879-CC Morgans come with fairly heavy bagmarks. Estimate Value $5,000 - 5,500

1883-S. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck with lovely greenish gold toning on both sides over abundant mint frost and luster. The strike is sharp on all devices, and what makes this coin so special is the quality of the surfaces. They are truly amazing, and are clearly of gem quality. The gem level is nearly unheard of for this date and mint, as no more than a few dozen exist that are at this grade or finer. Considering how many Morgan dollar collectors are out there, all seeking as nice a coin as they can find, this gem will always stand tall as one of the toughest dates and mints to acquire at the gem grade. If you have an advanced collection, then make sure to view this coin before the auction and be prepared to battle it out to win this exceptional specimen. Prices are all over the map for historic offerings of an 1883-S in gem, so what it will bring won't be known until the underbidder gives up at this auction. Pop 19; 6 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7148) Estimate Value $28,000 - 30,000
