1844. PCGS graded MS-63. PQ. Nice light toning with semi-reflective surfaces on both sides. All the circulation strikes made show slight doubling on the shield and LIBERTY, and only a single die pair was used to coin these. Proofs were struck with a different obverse die. Only 20,000 struck, and here is one of the nicer examples known. An enticing example of this tough date in a highly desirable state of preservation. Pop 8; 4 finer, 3 in 64, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 6930) Estimate Value $7,000 - 7,500

1845. NGC graded MS-62. Nice dark even blue toning on both sides. This is a scarce date in MS-62 as precious few of this date retain the mint state grade after generations of storage, during which time most were mishandled. Notice how few exist in mint state today! Here is one of the more attractive examples from this tough year of issue. Only 24,500 struck. Pop 4; 4 finer, 3 in 63, 1 in 64. Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000

Lot 463
1857. PCGS graded Proof 65. Lovely old time dark blue toning on both sides. This has always been a rare coin, nearly a twin to the 1858 proof only dollar in terms of numbers struck. It is estimated that about 50 to 75 examples are known according to PCGS Pop Report. From these numbers we deduce that ths is one of the finer examples today, with just a couple of coins slightly finer. Furthermore the splendid old time toning adds to the allure of this important offering. As we know, the late 1850s is where proof coin collecting really took off, after years of producing zero to ten coins in Proof, demand suddenly rose to where dozens were needed. Mintages began to be formally recorded for proofs and as the word spread among collectors, the demand continued to grow. Thus this 1857 silver dollar is one of the last of the mavericks, where mintages are uncertain, and demand was still in its infancy. Today of course, any collector would desire to own a handsome coin like this gem! Pop 4; 2 finer, 1 in 65 Cameo, 1 in 66. (PCGS # 7000) Estimate Value $20,000 - 22,000

1859. NGC graded Proof 66+. Lovely russet gold toning on both sides with a few touches of blue. A splendid gem proof which offers incredible quality along with strong visual appeal. Rarely are these Liberty Seated dollars found in such incredible condition. This is a high condition rarity that will be a major centerpiece of an advanced collection. Only 800 struck. Pop 1; 5 finer at NGC. Estimate Value $24,000 - 26,000

1867. PCGS graded Proof 65. Boldly struck by the dies, with lovely blue obverse toning while the reverse is a blend of deep blue and aqua at the rims and legends, lightening to russet and gold to the centers. The reverse is somewhat dappled while the obverse is more uniform in tone. A tough coin to find this well preserved and attractive, as the vast majority of surivors fall well short in both surface quality and in the toning department. Here is one that will long be enjoyed by the lucky buyer. Only 625 struck. Pop 17; 10 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7015) Estimate Value $8,500 - 9,000
