Pair of 19th Century Bronze Sphinxes on Iron Bases. French, patinated bronze models of recumbent sphinxes in the Egyptian Revival manner popular in the latter part of the 19th century. Majestic and striking, the pair have aged beautifully in their 100 plus years. The iron bases were likely re-painted decades ago and have blemishes and chips that add immeasurably to the overall appeal of these pieces. Each stands 10½ x 13½ x 6¾" Beautiful pieces. Bronze Empire Mantle Clock. By Paor Sculptures in Spain, comes this contemporary, Empire styled, large mantle clock of patinated bronze. Boasting excellent detail and craftsmanship this clock measures 23½ x 12½" x 8½. and is absolutely stunning in conveying the aristry of the decorative mid 19th century Empire style that celebrated the opulence and richness based on Greek and Roman splendor. Classic regal female resting, perhaps tipping a container of water which sits securely on a separate but matching bronze pedestal, with panels of chariot racing in relief surrounding. Carved Hardstone Bodhisattva Kuan-yan (Guan Yin). Beautifully carved, light green hardstone of Bodhisattva Guan Yin, spiritual figure of mercy and compassion. Stone is in soft greens with nicely executed carvings boasting fine details and finish. 14¼ x 15 x 4½". Sculpture is elegant in its angled cut and yet shallow, perfect for mantel or bookshelf. Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem Knight Commander Star. Rare and authentic 19th/20th century sterling silver and guilloché enamel Knight Commander with Star of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. It is a Roman Catholic order of knighthood under the protection of the Pope. It traces its roots to Duke Godfrey of Bouillon, principal leader of the First Crusade. In 1496, Pope Alexander VI created the office of Grand Master of the Order, and the office was vested in the papacy. The Pope is sovereign of the Order, and it enjoys the protection of the Holy See and has its legal seat at Vatican City. Few of these crosses are in general circulation.
Measures 3.25" diameter; weight: 92 grams. Both metal and enamel are in mint condition without any damage or repairs, with original patina. Estimate Value $800 - UP

Exceptional Russian Silver Gilt and Cloisonne Triptych, Cyrillic Makers Marks: (Raised) 'AK', 84, Right Facing Kokoshnik. Silver gilt and cloisonne triptych, one of the finest Russian cloisonne pieces we have offered. Stunning painted imagery of the Hodigitria Mother of God, flanked by two saints Measuring 5½ x 4½ x 1" and boasting five colors; white, sky blue, navy, green and red enamel in remarkable detail of floral and foliate designs. Marked 84 (875 silver) with right facing profile of a woman's head wearing a kokoshnik. These marks found stamped on ring atop triptych visible by loop. The cyrillic letters, AK are found and bottom of edge. Truly fine craftsmanship, both panels close with hinges in excellent condition. Total weight 24¾ ozt. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP

Fedoskino Lacquer Box -- Alexander Pushkin (Orest Kiprensky), 1827. Lacquer box, 10 x 7¼ x 2 3/8", with a waist-length portrait of the great Russian poet, playwright, and novelist Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837) by Orest Kiprensky (1732-1836), who was a great portraitist of the early nineteenth century. The box is in remarkably good condition, with only a few minor scuffs at lower edge. The colors are still vibrant. Fedoskino is a center for Russia's lacquer miniature industry and lacquer box production. Estimate Value $500 - UP

Medal of the Ordre Royal de l'Etoile d'Anjouan Comores -- With an Order of Leopold. 1) Eight-pointed silver gilt star, each point composed of eight rays; the face with a circular centrally-imposed white enamel medallion bearing an upright gilt hand above a gilt crescent and an inscription in gilt Arabic characters encircled by a gilt ring inscribed in black letters ‘ORDRE ROYAL DE L’ETOILE D’ANJOUAN COMORES’ within a studded silver ring; the reverse plain; diameter 58.56mm. The order was established in 1874 by Sultan Mohamed-Saïd-Omar of the Comoros island of Anjouan, reorganized on June 18, 1892; authorized and organized by the French government on Sept. 12, 1896. It was made a French Overseas Order in 1950. [With] Silver and white enamel Maltese cross with ball tipped finials, a silver-gilt and green enamel wreath of oak and laurel between the arms, on swivel crown suspension.
