Elizabeth, Queen Mother -- 1961 Christmas Card to the Head Gardener. Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon (1900-2002) was the queen consort of King George VI and the mother of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret. 1961 Christmas card with printed sentiment for Christmas and the New Year signed, "from Elizabeth R," in blue ink, 8¼ x 6¾", with facing color print of the Garden at Royal Lodge. Fine condition. Accompanied by the transmittal envelope addressed to D. Stevenson Esq. / Head Gardener's House, Royal Gardens, Windsor, Bershire. Housed in a morocco case with a color image of the Queen Mother on the cover. Estimate Value $250 - UP

Frederick II, Called "Frederick the Great" -- Letter Signed to His Minister of Finance (1712-86) King of Prussia (1740-86). Brilliant military campaigner who made Prussia the foremost military power in Europe. Known for his patronage of the arts and the Enlightenment, he preferred the French language and arts. The French writer and philosopher Voltaire was a great favorite. Letter signed, one page, in German, 9½ x 7½", Potsdam, April 25, 1749. To his minister of finance, von Marschall, informing him that Herr von Heydebrandt (Minister of Posts) is ill and must be temporarily relieved from his duties. Frederick then instructs von Marschall to take on the duties of the ill man as needed in order to keep the accounts current and correct. Von Heydebrandt was satirically referred to as "the uncrowned King of Prussia" by his detractors. Light age toning, with tiny tape remnants on verso at upper corners. Frederick's signature is large. [Louis XVI] - 1789 Proclamation of the King Limiting the Issuance of Passports, and 1793 European Magazine With Report on "Execution of Louis XVI". "Proclamation du Roi, Portant sanction d'un Decret de l'Assemblee Nationale, concernant les Passeports & les Suppleans des Deputes," signed in print by the King, Louis [XVI], 2 pages, quarto, Paris, Oct. 25, 1789. Accompanied by a copy of "The European Magazine, and London Review…by the Philological Society of London." Vol: 23. From Jan.ry to June. 1793, London. Pages 6-8 describe the execution of Louis XVI and also give the substance of his will. Estimate Value $200 - UP

George III, George IV, Victoria, and Napoleon III. George III, signature ("George R") cut from a vellum document, 3 ¼ x 8 ¼", with "George the Third" visible on document and "1796" in another hand. Very good. George IV, large signature ("George R") and most of paper seal cut from a paper document, 3 x 7"; "Georgius IV" is visible on seal. Very good. Victoria, autograph letter signed "The Queen" in the text, one page, on black-bordered letterhead with royal insignia at top left, 7 x 4 ¼". In full: "The Queen does intend to go and open Parliament in person. Windsor Castle Aug: 10 - 1848." Also, Napoléon III, signature ("Napoléon") on toned 2 x 3¼" paper. Fine. Estimate Value $350 - UP

Lovely British 1837 Vellum Lease Indenture With Blue Revenue Stamp and Wax Seal. A lease indenture executed by Silvester & Co., Engravers to His Majesty's Public Offices, 27 Strand, London. With oversize two first words in calligraphy, the initial "T" in "This" containing the British coat of arms. The indenture is between Charles Adnam Mason of the Parish of Tarrington in the county of Hereford and Richard Johnson and Charles Henry Price, both of the city of Hereford, all three noted as gentlemen. For the sum of five shillings of lawful money, Mason sells to Johnson and Price two acres and fifteen perches of land "lying between the Lands now or late of Mrs. Buttress Land belonging to the poor of Lugwardine…." A lovely, clean document, 15¼ x 21¾" with scalloped top edge, blue revenue stamp in left margin, and Mason's red wax seal at bottom center. Atrractively matted and framed to an overall size of 24¾ x 31." Estimate Value $200 - UP
