Lot 1882
1826/6. NGC graded MS-61. BD-1. Only 760-1,750 struck. and from this meager beginning the total known is estimated at 30 to 35 pieces known. Pop 1; The Finest graded by NGC. This is a very rare type coin in any grade. The survivor coins number is tiny because these were worth more than their face value at the time they were struck, hence the majority went straight into the melting pots for the instant profit. Some coins did escape this fate, but the vast majority did not. Known survivors are usually in high circulated grades, or just uncirculated like this example. There is minor repunching below the 6, and for years this was called an overdate thinking the undertype was a 5, however later scholars now believe this is just repunching of the 6. This boldly struck, well preserved example is destined to be a major highlight in any advanced collection. Fully untoned with prooflike surfaces on both sides. Very Rare. Estimate Value $80,000 - 90,000

Lot 1883
1832. PCGS graded AU-55. Untoned with semi reflective fields and attractive surfaces. The vast majority of this rare type coin were melted long ago as the price of gold rose in relative value in the early 1830s to where it was quite profitable to melt our gold coinage, simply for the gold bullion they contained. This situation became so out of control that in mid 1834 the Mint, following the orders of Congress, reduced the gold content in the quarter eagle and half eagle coins, enough to keep them in circultion and out of the melting pots. This change came a bit too late for the meager issue of 1832 quarter eagles, and that's why so few of these exist today. Collector demand vastly outstrips the scant supply of these, and they remain in high demand. Only 4400 struck. Pop 11; 22 finer. (PCGS # 7672) Estimate Value $12,000 - 13,000

1841-C. PCGS graded AU-55. CAC. Nice strike with lovely golden toning. Worthy of a higher graded. Only 10,281 struck, today CoinFacts estimates about 110 are known. This is one of the finer examples too, as just a couple appear to be fully mint state. Nicely struck by the dies with full definition on the devices. Toned with a hint of coppery gold around the rims and lustrous. This is one of the tougher Charlotte Mint issue to find at all, let alone nice like this coin!Pop 14; 8 in 58; 1 in 62. Lot 1895
1868. PCGS graded Proof 64 Cameo PQ. CAC. Well struck and fully untoned. Only 25 struck in proof and this is one of the finest examples. First off the surfaces are nearly of gem qualiity, second the fields and devices show the desirable Cameo contrast seen only on a couple of surviving proofs of this date. The contrast adds to the appeal, and this makes for a dramtic coin to study. Mintages at the time were tiny reflecting the demand, simply put not many people in Amerrica could afford to buy and keep these early numismatic treasures. Only the richest folks were able to buy these, and not many did. Today these are historic relics from our history and of considerable importance. Pop 2; 1 in 65CAM. 1901. PCGS graded Proof 67 Deep Cameo. CAC. A nearly perfect coin. First off the strike is full, sharp and complete. There are no copper specks or stains, the entire surface is bright and fresh. The fields are boldly mirrored by the dies, falling away from the devices when examined. Bold frost on every letter and device, as required for the Deep Cameo designation. About ten percent of the original mintage of 223 pieces earn the Deep Cameo designation. When all comes to all, this will always be one of the finest seen of this rare Proof quarter eagle, and a delightful coin to hold and examine. Pop 8; 1 in 68; 1 in 68+; 2 in 69. 1907. PCGS graded Proof 67 Cameo PQ. CAC. Lovely golden toning on both sides. There is a minor hint of speck on Liberty's neck and this will help to identify this specimen in the future, or track its prior auction appearances. Glorious reflectity and excellent contrast between the fields and devices. As a date this issue is virtually impossible to locate in Deep Cameo, only a couple of these have been certified. Thus most collectors seek an example with the Cameo designation to represent this final year of issue of the Liberty quarter eagle. Pop 5; 2 in 67+; 2 in 68.
