Lot 1863
1855-D. NGC graded AU-58+. This is a truly rare coin with only 1,811 struck and from the group perhaps as many as 80 distinct coins exist today. This is one of the finer examples, and offers a sharp strike with all of LIBERTY clear on the headband, and the wreath bold. The only signs of softness are the usual weakness on LL of DOLLAR and the 8 in the date, areas opposite Liberty's head and prone to poor striking. This is one of the most sought-after of the Dahlonega issues, and a rare Type II Gold dollar that is seldom offered and always in great demand. Needless to say, this is an exciting offering and a coin that will be a major highlight in any advanced collection. Pop 1; 5 finer, 1 in 60, 1 in 61, 1 in 63, 2 in 64. Mostly untoned. Estimate Value $28,000 - 30,000

Lot 1865
1855-C. NGC graded MS-61. A nice frosty white coin. The strike is a trifle uneven, as usually seen on this rare issue. All the important design elements are clear. The Charlotte Mint issued limited coinage during their years in operation. In this case the 1855 gold dollars mostly entered circulation and stayed. Precious few were saved in uncirculated grades, like the present coin. A prize for the advanced collector. Only 9803 minted. Pop 9; 4 in 62; none finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7533) Estimate Value $19,000 - 20,000

1858-D. NGC graded MS-63. Only 3,477 minted. Pop 7; 1 in 64, 1 in 66. Mostly untoned with strong luster in the fields and the strike is reasonably sharp for this rare issue. The Dahlonega Mint was under great stress even by 1858, as the pressures of the Civil War began to boil over into daily life. Mintage of these 1858 gold dollars reflect the problems, as people started to hoard gold with the coming conflict. This is one of the finer examples known today and a coin that is worthy of any top notch collection. Estimate Value $15,000 - 16,000

Lot 1868
1859-C. PCGS graded MS-62. Only 5,235 struck. Pop 5; 3 finer in 63. Untoned with some luster evident and clearly a well preserved example of this elusive Dahlonega issue. The Civil War was on the cusp of breaking out, people were afraid of what was to come, uknown as it was. How long would any war last? Many thought, and experts confirmed, it would be a short glorious affair, and everyone would be home in weeks. In the first battles, families came out to watch the fighting with picnics. This social event did not continue long, but the war lasted on and on. Here is a coin that was carefully set aside and preserved, and fitting memento to this historic time in our past (PCGS # 7552) Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000

Furthermore, the quality of the surfaces is stunning, with nary a hint of contact to be found when closely examined. A gorgeous example of this issue. Pop 1; 1 finer in 67 Star. Lot 1878
1884. NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo. Only 1006 minted and this one is one is perhaps one of the finest known. The strike is bold and crisp throughout, and all the features are brought up to their fullest extent. This is also the well known repunched date variety, where 1884 was first punched a bit too low in the die, then corrected. The undertype is clear with a strong loupe. Most of the known proofs of this date exhibit this feature. What really separates this coin from the masses is the astounding quality of the surfaces. Rarely are the delicate mirror fields found so untouched and pristine! Furthermore the devices are also perfectly preserved, with undisturbed frost in abundance. A condition rarity that will never go out of style. Pop 3; None finer in Proof Cameo. (PCGS # 87634) Estimate Value $25,000 - UP
