Lot 186
1793 S-1 R4 Chain AMERI. G4. Several points sharper, especially on the reverse, but there are too many contact marks for the sharpness grade. There are two old scratches on the lower half of the obverse, a rim bruise under the 9 in the date, and several dull rim nicks or small rim bumps over NITED. Otherwise the planchet is smooth and the toning is an attractive and mostly glossy olive and light chocolate brown. The date is faint, only partially visible, but everything else is easily readable. MDS, Breen state II, before the reverse die cracked. Estimate Value $3,000 - UP

Lot 187
1793 S-2 R4+ Chain AMERICA PCGS graded VF20. Attractive glossy medium olive brown and steel. Hints of mint frost show inside the links of the chain. The surfaces are smooth except for a thin planchet fissure (as struck) from the L in LIBERTY to the rim left of the lower curls. There are some nicks in the hair left of the neck and a rim bruise well left of the L in LIBERTY. The reverse is absolutely choice in every respect. LDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks on the obverse and an obvious wave through the bottom of the 793. The date is clear and the legends are strong. A very nice Chain AMERICA cent in spite of the thin planchet flaw. Our grade is the same as the PCGS grade. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 7 finer at PCGS for the variety. (PCGS # 35435) Estimate Value $18,000 - UP

Lot 188
1793 S-3 R3- Chain AMERICA PCGS VF Details, Damage. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but a glass reveals extremely fine roughness under the glossy reddish chocolate brown toning. Evidence of very light smoothing is visible in the obverse fields (this must be the "Damage" mentioned by PCGS). No verdigris or pits, only trivial ticks of no significance. A good identifying mark is a tiny nick on the left side of the second 0 in the denominator (but you will need a glass to see it). The date and legends are complete and clear. LDS, Breen state III, with strong die clashmarks under the truncation and along the front edge of the neck. Our grade is net F12. A decent example of our popular 1793 Chain AMERICA Cent (PCGS # 1341) Estimate Value $14,000 - UP

1793 S-4 R3 Chain AMERICA with Periods PCGS graded G4. Glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and show only minor contact marks including a small rim nick over the B in LIBERTY that may help identify this piece. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks. The date is weakly struck due to axially misaligned dies (a condition seen only in the early die state) with just the top of the 93 still visible. LIBERTY is strong and everything else is clear. Our grade is G5. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label (PCGS # 35444) Estimate Value $325 - UP

1793 S-6 R3 Wreath Cent with Vine & Bars Edge PCGS graded AU53. PCGS graded AU-53. Choice glossy light to medium chocolate brown with frost in protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are smooth and this Wreath Cent has outstanding eye appeal. Just a few trivial marks from flawless. The notable marks are a tiny planchet lamination in the field above the bust tip, a thin planchet crease in the hair below the L in LIBERTY, a very small rim bruise left of the date, and a couple shallow planchet flakes at the edge outside the border beads at the top of the reverse. All but the tiny rim bruise are mint-made flaws, and none of them is significant. MDS, Breen state III, with a dull horizontal wave in the field behind the portrait extending across the portrait to the chin. Our grade is VF35+, very close to EF40. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in AU55 for the variety, none finer. PCGS #35450. (PCGS # 35450) Estimate Value $20,000 - UP

1793 S-6 R3 Wreath Cent with Vine & Bars Edge G5. Sharpness F12 but there is an attempted (but unsuccessful) puncture at the bottom of the R in LIBERTY plus a few rim dents on both sides. The rim dent at OF-A is rather strong but it does not reach into the tops of those letters. The date and legends are complete and clear. Slightly glossy olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. E-MDS, Breen state II, with an obvious wave or swelling in the field behind the head and a die crack in the lower hair curls to the truncation. Estimate Value $800 - UP

Attractive frosty medium steel brown and chocolate with traces of lighter reddish brown faded down from mint color in protected areas on both sides. Sharply struck and free of spots, stains, or planchet defects. The only marks, and they are trivial, are a couple tiny ticks on the rim under the denominator. M-LDS, Breen state II late, with a die crack across the reverse from the base of the first T in STATES through the left foot of the second A in AMERICA. A wonderful example of the 1793 Wreath Cent. Our grade is AU50 due to a touch of friction on the highest points of the hair and wreath. NGC population 1; 1 in 63. Estimate Value $50,000 - UP

1793 S-10 R4 Wreath Cent with Vine & Bars Edge G4. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown with slightly darker olive brown toning in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable mark is a planchet fissure at the rim over TA in STATES (as struck). The date is weak but still readable and the legends are complete except for weakness on ONE CENT due to swelling in the center of the reverse associated with the latest die state (Breen state II). In addition "dec" is neatly written in cursive using darker India ink in the field before the neck. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state II. The border beads around the obverse are strong and the edge lettering is bold. Estimate Value $2,750 - UP
