1796. PCGS graded MS-63. JR-4, Rarity-4. Wonderful rainbow toning on both sides that includes rich russet gold at he periphery, deepening to rich aqua blue in areas near the extreme rims. Semi reflective fields are evident when examined under a light source. This is the first year of issue of the denomination of the dime, which continued with this design of the Draped bust, Small Eagle only through the end of 1797. In 1798 a new reverrse design was adopted, while the obverse design continued in production through 1807. Hence this type with the Small Eagle reverse design was only issued for two short years.
