1855-D. NGC graded AU-58. Well struck with lovely golden toning. These were all struck in February of 1855 at the Dahlonega Mint. There are two die pairings known, and the finest seen in MS-64. No more than a half dozen exist in Mint State, thus this lovely AU-58 coin should be strongly considered by any date specialist in the market for this prized rarity. Only 1,811 struck, of which perhaps 80 distinct coins suvive today. Not only is this a rarity from the Dahlonega Mint, but it is the second rarest Gold dollar over all, and is also the coveted Type II design. Pop 11; 6 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7534) Estimate Value $25,000 - 27,000

Lot 1079
1857-C. NGC graded AU-55. Struck on a faulty planchet as nearly always seen on this notoriously challenging issue. Nearly all examples show similar planchet issues, and these were carelessly struck. Notice the dentils on the lower obverse are soft, diagnostic to most 1857-C gold dollars. Furthermore, there are low areas in the fields, some from die clashing and others from the soft striking quality always seen. On the positive side, the color is classic righ orange gold, there are no deep or distracting circulation marks and this is one of the finer examples known. There are a handful in the lower mint state grades, but for the true collector, a high end and comparatively appealing coin like this makes a bold statement if added to an advanced collection. Not many 1857-C gold dollars can even approach the eye appeal and high technical grade offere here. Only 13,280 struck. Pop 50; 46 finer, 35 in 58, 2 in 60, 5 in 61, 4 in 62. Lot 1082
1859-C. NGC graded MS-61. Mostly untoned with the usual uneven strikewhich this issue is famous for. However; the surfaces are attractive and this coin was clearly saved since the time it was struck. Approximately two dozen have claims to mint state, but none of these are finer than MS-63. A prized condition rarity that will grace any advanced collection. Only 5,235 struck. Pop 8; 11 finer, 10 in 62, 1 in 63. (PCGS # 7552) Estimate Value $5,500 - 6,000
