1893-CC. NGC graded MS-61 Deep Prooflike. Well struck and almost fully white. An extremely rare format for this date and mint with fewer and than ten known in all grades. Here is an attractive mint state coin that offers both a good strike, full luster and rich eye appeal. A blazer with strong reflectivity and creamy frost on the devices. Pop 2; 7 finer, 4 in 62, 2 in 63, 1 in 65. Estimate Value $9,000 - 9,500

1893-CC. PCGS graded MS-63. Lovely golden toning on both sides which shows teal and russet accents around the rims. The toning is old and original, and gives the coin a most attractive appearance. Of course, the 1893-CC is one of the tougher Carson City coins to find in mint state grades, with this choice coin showing good luster and excellent eye appeal. The strike is a touch soft at the centers, as often seen for this issue. This was struck in the final year of production of the Carson City Mint (PCGS # 7222) Estimate Value $6,000 - 6,500

Lot 758
1893-CC. PCGS graded MS-62. CAC. Lovely golden toning around the edges on both sides. Well struck for this highly desirable date and mint. This is the final year of production for the Carson City Mint, and apparently most of this issue was eventually melted. This appears to be the fact based on how few have been certified relative to the mintage of 677,000 pieces. Fewer than ten percent of these are known today. However, unlike the other key Carson City issues of 1879-CC and 1889-CC, the majority of the 1893-CC coins are at least Mint State. Most of course fall into the lower grades from MS-63 and down. This particular coin is solid for the grade and should please any astute numismatist who is seeking a handsome example (PCGS # 7222) Estimate Value $5,000 - 5,200

1893-CC. PCGS graded MS-62. PQ. A nice white coin and one of the most challenging Carson City Morgans to find in Mint State. This was struck in the final year of production from that famed Western Mint, ideally situated near the massive Comstock silver mines. Historic and offering solid eye appeal for the modest grade. An enticing Carson City dollar that will grace any advanced collection (PCGS # 7222) Estimate Value $5,000 - 5,200

1893-S. NGC graded MS-60. This is the key date Morgan dollar in any mint state grade. Despite a reasonable mintage of 100,000 pieces there simply were no hoards saved in mint state. This is quite unusual as most other Morgan dollars are known to have survived in bag quantities, but not so the 1893-S! For the collector who demands mint state quality, this is the ultimate issue to find. Precious few have been certified as mint state over the years by either grading service, fewer than 100 in all Hence, if you desire a complete mint state set, then here is a coin to strongly consider. Opportunities for another mint state 1893-S may be few and far between.

While the 1895 Morgan dollar (known only in Proof condition) is called the King of the Morgans, the 1893-S in mint state can certainly be called the Queen of this series! So few are known, and whenever a mint state coin is offered on the auction block, all eyes and ears are focused on the action, for the winning bidder will finally be able to say they now have a complete mint state collection of this challenging series. While certainly a formidable price is required to capture this prize, it is within the dreams and desires of so many collectors that whatever it brings will certainly seem worthwhile.
The obverse and reverse are well struck, frosty and light toning around the edges. Unlike so many similar coins the surfaces have not been cleaned up to any degree, and the eye appeal and luster are intact. Housed in an Old Style Holder. Only 100,000 struck. Pop 1; 27 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 7224) Estimate Value $80,000 - 90,000

1893-S. ANACS graded EF-40. Lightly toned and attractive. This is the rarest of the circulation issues of the Morgan dollar series, with a mintage of 100,000 pieces the vast majority of which disappeared long ago. Here is one of the nicer coins seen today and a date and mint which is always in feverish demand. Popular key date. Housed in an Old Style Holder. A proper grade should be VF-35. 1895. PCGS graded Proof 63 Cameo. CAC. PQ. This is the King of the Morgan Dollars. Known only in the Proof format, competition for this date comes from both Morgan dollar collectors as well as Proof date collectors. There's never enough of these to go around, and collectors far and wide are seeking any example of this prized date. The years have proven its rarity and desirability, as unceasing demand is noted when one of these 1895 Morgans becomes available. Here is a particularly attractive coin with rich russet and gold toning on both sides, reflecitve mirror fields, and full satin frost on the devices. All too often this is the last coin obtained by specialists, who look longingly for a coin that suits their needs. Wonderful golden toning on both sides. Only 880 struck. Pop 18; 69 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 87330) Estimate Value $50,000 - UP

1895-S. PCGS graded MS-62. Boldly struck with reflective surfaces. Almost looks like a specimen strike with crisp details on all the devices and a mirror quality to the fields. Certainly an early strike from the dies of this popular and scarce date. Rarely are these found in full Mint State, and the toning is gorgeous with deep lilac, gold and greenish iridescence. The lovely old time toning covers both sides. This is a memorable example of this issue (PCGS # 7238) Estimate Value $4,000 - 4,400

1896-S. PCGS graded MS-64. CAC. PQ. A nice well struck white coin that is scarce this well preserved and on the curp of a Gem grade. Full blazing luster and excellent surface quality for the grade. Despite a generous mintage of 5 million pieces for this year from San Francisco, for some reason not many of these survived in mint state. This is borne out in the Population Report, where fewer than 100 gems or finer have been certified by PCGS. This issue is scarce at this grade level as well (PCGS # 7244) Estimate Value $4,000 - 4,500
