1820 N-13 R1 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Frosty medium steel brown and olive with underlying luster covering the planchet. No spots or stains, only a few microscopic ticks of no significance. MDS, the usual Randall Hoard die state showing a die crack through the date and stars. Our grade is MS60+. Estimate Value $500 - UP

1820 N-13 R1 Large Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Frosty steel brown and tan with underlying satiny mint luster covering both sides. The only notable defects are two small planchet voids on the rim at star 1, as struck. MDS with a die crack through the date and stars, the usual Randall Hoard die state for the variety. 1842 N-4 R2 Large Date PCGS graded AU58. Frosty light to medium chocolate brown with lighter tan in protected areas on the reverse. Looks mint state but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. The only defect is a splash of very fine carbon over RICA to the dentils off the stem tip. Nicely struck EDS, die state a. The fine die lines from the neck and from the dentils over MER are visible. Our grade is net AU50. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Estimate Value $300 - UP

1856 N-13 R2 Italic 5 PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown. Mint red fading to light steel brown with at least a third of the faded mint color remaining visible on both sides. There is a spot of darker toning on the tip of the nose, a tiny planchet chip in the field right of star 2, and a couple small stains of olive toning at TATE in STATES. E-MDS, die state b. Most of the die lines connecting ON in ONE to EN in CENT are gone but there are no rim cud breaks on the obverse. Our grade is MS62, tied with several other examples for CC#3 in the Grellman census.
