Secretariat Hoofprint Taken in 1985. American Thoroughbred racehorse (March 30, 1970-October 4, 1989) that in 1973 became the first U.S. Triple Crown champion since Citation's 1948 win. Secretariat set records in two of the three events in the Series: the Kentucky Derby (1:59 2/5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24). These records still stand today.

Left front footprint of Secretariat taken from his paddock at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky on November 16, 1985, by artist Tom Stanford. The print is embedded in an 8½ x 7 x 4 inch chunk of Kentucky clay. Obtained on a rainy day when Secretariat obliged by stepping in the mud, it took six months to dry. It is housed in a custom-made wooden box, 13¾ x 11¾ x 4¾ inches. This is a unique opportunity to obtain one of the only two preserved hoofprints of Secretariat in existence.

Accompanied by an original letter on Claiborne Farm letterhead, dated April 22, 1986, and signed by the secretary for Mrs. Hancock, who with her husband, Seth Hancock, owned Claiborne Farm, where Secretariat stood at stud from the end of his racing career until his death in 1989. The letter thanks Tom Stanford for the photograph of his painting of Secretariat and says Mrs. Hancock wishes him luck selling his prints and the painting. Also accompanied by a copy of a story from the May 28, 1986 issue of a Clinton, Massachusetts newspaper about how Tom obtained two of Secretariat's hoofprints from the Kentucky mud with the help of Bill Waddell, a security man at Claiborne Farm, and a color photo of Tom with Secretariat during a 1981 visit.

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from the sale of this hoofprint will be donated to The Secretariat Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization to enhance the welfare of the Thoroughbred community. It was created by Mrs. Penny Chenery, who bred and raced Secretariat.
