Lot 958
1796. PCGS graded VF Details, Environmental Damage. Very popular type coin as the mintage was tiny and this type was only issued in 1796. Hence all type collectors need to find an example, and not many have survived at all. This one faces up well despite some issues, with lots of hair detail and balanced surfaces. Light even grey toning. Only 6,146 struck (PCGS # 5310) Estimate Value $16,000 - UP

Lot 961
1843. PCGS graded Proof 64. Needle sharp and lightly toned with a blush of pale gold.An extremely rare early proof issue, these were struck at irregular intervals in the 1840s, with some years producing no proofs at all, others just a couple. Sometimes 10 or so were struck, and all are desirable today. A few decades later, proof coin production became far more prolific, with mintages in the 100s or even 1000s for most copper and silver denominations. Compare that to a coin like this with only 10 struck, with about 6 to 8 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. Pop 2; 2 finer, 1 in 64+, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 5537) Estimate Value $25,000 - UP

1858. NGC graded Proof 66. Lovely blue and golden toning, particularly on the obverse where rainbow circles surround the devices. The reverse shows deep and rich aqua blue and lilac around the rim. Pop 7; 8 finer, 5 in 66 Cameo, 1 in 66+ Cameo, 2 in 67. Estimate Value $9,000 - 10,000

1863. NGC graded Proof 67. Wonderful rainbow toning with flashes of sunset yellow and gold, intermixed with iridescence. Struck in the depths of the Civil War period and a coin which somehow was perfectly preserved and remains at the Superb Gem grade level. Not only technically fantastic, but a visual treat as well. Only 460 struck. Pop 1; 2 finer, 1 in 67 Star, 1 in 67 Star Cameo. Estimate Value $11,000 - 12,000

Lot 967
1863. NGC graded MS-66+. Boldly struck and lightly toned. The business strike quarters of 1863 saw a significant drop off in their mintage when compared with prior years. Only 191,600 pieces were struck, in part due to the coin hoarding nationally with the ongoing Civil War. Clearly, a few were saved like the present example, and carefully preserved right down to today. Here is arguably one of the finest known of this date and mint. Pop 1; tied with another 66+ at PCGS for the finest graded examples. Estimate Value $6,000 - UP

1878-S. PCGS graded MS-64. Well struck and lightly toned with an attractive layer of antique gray patina. Lot 977
1892. PCGS graded Proof 66+. PQ. Boldly struck with wonderful rainbow toning which spans from vibrant blue in the fields and devices, changing over to russet-gold at the centers, and lighter iridescence closer to the rims. This toning is perfectly matched and balanced on both sides. A coin which offers exceptional eye appeal. The 1892 Barber coinage was launched on the dime, quarter and half dollar, with the obverse dies all of the same design. The reverse of the dime continued the same as seen on the prior Liberty Seated design since 1860. Mint Engraver Charles E Barber used the mirror image of the Morgan design of the silver dollar obverse (1878) for the head of Liberty, and cropped her hair in the back, and placed the balance of her hair beneath a large cap. This coin should be called PR67. Only 1,245 proofs struck. Pop 2; 55 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 5678) Estimate Value $3,000 - UP

1916. PCGS graded MS-65 Full Head. Lovely toning on both sides of antique gold and silver gray. The strike is sharp on Liberty's head, enough to earn the desirable Full Head designation for this key date. These 1916 Standing Liberty quarters were launched in early 1917, in fact collectors and the general public did not even know these were struck in late 1916. Furthermore they were released with all the 1917 quarters, hence not many noticed these 1916 quarters until they were well circulated. This is one of the finer examples seen today. A well struck popular key date. Only 52,000 struck. Pop 82; 38 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 5705) Estimate Value $30,000 - UP
