Mississippi Territory Dr. Rush Nutt: 13½ pp., Docketed and Silked. Original Tribute to Thomas Jefferson's Presidency & Inauguration of James Madison. Remarkable original manuscript of a tribute (almost a eulogy) of the administration of Thomas Jefferson given by Dr. Rush Nutt of Greeenville, Mississippi (1781-1837) on the occasion of James Madison's inauguration, March 4, 1809. Nutt, a physician by education, proved a brilliant mind in agriculture developing two strains of cotton, notably the Petit Gulf cotton hybrid, developed as they were easier to pick. In 1809, while expanding his property ownership and commencing building what was to become Laurel Hill Plantation in Jefferson County, Mississippi, Nutt already was a central figure in Mississippi and delivered this speech before the citizens of Greenville. The speech eloquently highlights Jefferson's accomplishments and integrity. But it is the closing pages that Nutt's passionate oratory achieves heights idealism that inspire addressing (dramatically) education, science, and laws while always being vigilant to protect the freedoms and sovereignty of the nation.

"It was the great proficiency and general dissemination of Science & Literature in America, which paved the way for our glorious Revolution and for the first dawn of that liberty* which the Philanthropist must hope will never set, but will continue to propagate its rays, till the beneficent influence penetrates the farthermost corners of the Earth". Blank inside page is signed elaborately "Dr. Rush Nutt, Greenville, Mip-Territory" (upside down)

Manuscript is overall very fine condition aided immeasurably by professional silking holding in check some edge chipping. Extremely legible with the occasional small stains.

*By 1860 the Nutt Family controlled 42,947 acres and owned 800 slaves. Estimated Value $250 - 500

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein (Secretarial) Co-Signed Typed Letter On Washington Post Letterhead Regarding Understanding Nixon. The Watergate scandal spanned four years (1971-1974) that ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. The scandal stemmed from his administration's attempt to cover up its involvement in the 1972 break-in of the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate Hotel which connected the cash found on the five burglars to the Nixon Re-election Campaign.

Two young reporters for The Washington Post were teamed up in 1972 by legendary news editor Ben Bradlee with both engaging in much of the original news reporting of the Watergate scandal resulting in one of the greatest reporting efforts of the second half of the 20th Century. Both men went on to great success in writing numerous best-sellers on American politics.

Offered is a very brief typed Letter signed: "Bob Woodward", 1 page, 8½ x 11" on Washington Post letterhead with a secretarial co-signature by Carl Bernstein. Washington, D.C., 1976 July 28. On letterhead of the Washington Post to Mr. Gerald L. Granat, Philmore Manufacturing Co., Inwood, N. Y. In full: "Thank you very much for writing. We believe and still believe the material was relevant to understanding Nixon." Excellent condition. Estimated Value $200 - 400

John F. Kennedy Collection: 11 Assorted Figures, Busts, Miniatures, Bobble-Head, Talking Action Figure & The Controversial Desk Set. A fine collection of figural, or sculptural pieces that are very much part of the John F. Kennedy collector's universe. Offered are eleven beginning with the most controversial. From Edward Reed Historical Enterprises Inc., Dallas Texas, in 1964 is this copper gilt pot metal desk set of Dealey Plaza with the Texas School Book Depository cast complete with the Hertz Rent-A-Car sign that indeed stood atop the building in 1963. The window Oswald positioned himself is recessed, in high relief on the knoll "Site of Pres. J.F. Kennedy Assassination 11-22-63" and conveniently a bowl recessed to hold paper clips or other items all highlighted with an authentic JFK 50¢ piece dated 1963. This piece is very well known within Kennedyiana Collectors and is thought only around 100 made due to no vendor, museum or department store wanting to sell them as the assassination being so recent and most finding the design "macabre". Other versions exist were drilled with a pen holder. Stamped with Edward Reed Historical Inc. on verso, desk set has scattered gilt loss otherwise very good. It is considered "The Strangest Souvenir Building" ever made by Journal of the Souvenir Building Collectors Society.

Also included are three busts of Kennedy, one by Quality Collectibles 42/1000 that is actually quite handsome, one of painted bronze over plaster and the third a crescent shaped onyx desk set with a bust of bronze gilt over white metal of Kennedy and still with original pens. Miniatures include a plastic Kennedy in rocking chair still in original package, two pairs of salt and pepper shakers (Kennedy is the pepper shaker the chair the is the salt shaker), a hand painted porcelain Sebastian Miniature, again with Kennedy in his rocking chair, and a Murano glass-like paperweight with Kennedy's image.
